MORE MONEY FOR VETERANS PROJECTED 2025 COLA #va #disability #benefits #compensation #socialsecurity

he Senior Citizens League estimates the Social Security cost-of-living adjustment, or COLA, for 2025 is likely to be 2.4%, based on the latest consumer price index data, released Tuesday.

The 2024 cost-of-living adjustment for Social Security beneficiaries was 3.2%.

The February Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers (CPI-W) rose 3.1% from 13 months ago. That’s higher than the inflation trends indicated last month based on January’s inflation data, according to the advocacy group. As a result, the League’s 2025 COLA projection has jumped from 1.75%.

In the league’s 2024 Senior Survey, 73% of respondents said their household costs rose by more than 3.2% in 2023; plus, 38% are worried that their 2024 COLA will fall short of inflation this year.

The group cautions that the final COLA for 2025 is “likely to be different from the estimates because the COLA is calculated on the average rate of inflation during the third quarter … which is compared against the third quarter a year ago.”

February Inflation Highlights
As reported by the BLS, the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers — a measure of inflation that is broader than the CPI-W — increased 0.4% in February on a seasonally adjusted basis, after rising 0.3% in January. Over the last 12 months, the all items index increased 3.2% before seasonal adjustment.

The index for shelter rose in February, as did the index for gasoline. Combined, these two indexes contributed over 60% of the monthly increase in the index for all items. The energy index rose 2.3% over the month, as all of its component indexes increased.

The food index was unchanged in February, as was the food at home index. The food away from home index rose 0.1% over the month. The index for all items less food and energy rose 0.4% in February, as it did in January.

Indexes which increased in February include shelter, airline fares, motor vehicle insurance, apparel and recreation. The index for personal care and the index for household furnishings and operations were among those that decreased over the month.

I love how those who decide on an increase seem to be small, but when it's time for them to get a raise, they want the max.

We should get a COLA raise that matches true inflation. But, like you pointed out, only the data of the 4th Quarter of the fiscal year will be used. This is why our government does some crazy stuff those last few months to bring down gas/oil prices to reduce inflation rates during those months. It happens every damned year regardless which Party is in the majority.

We’ll get a 3% raise when our spending power has reduced by 40%.

We should have received a higher increase this year? A 3.2% this year is a slap in the face of every veteran. While politicians in Washington DC received a lot more than they deserve.

Disabled veterans should not have to pay taxes.!!! Any cola increase will be insignificant to the inflation rate which is constantly rising.

i find it so funny that i took math, algebra, and even calculus in HS, and then even took further classes in college for the past 20 years; and then i see the prices of necessities go up 400-800% from top to bottom. but then when the numbers come out for COLA and such, they claim inflation is some ridiculous bs like 17%.
what kind of enron-math is going on here?

A little off topic but please pass along to all Cold War vets. There is a bill in Congress H.R. 5757 Cold War Service Medal Act, that has languished in the House for several years. This bill would pass into law an official medal for all Cold War vets not just a commemorative medal issued by various veteran’s organizations. Please write or call your representatives to get this bill passed and honor the millions of vets who served during this overdue honor passed.

I heard that inflation will match our increase so that we won’t even notice.

They need to give us a raise each month I think. That is the only way to keep up with the rising costs. When the raise for the new year only covers the inflation from last year it creates a gap.

Since I've been service connected since 2014 VA has increased 28.58%.

2014 Veteran alone was $2906.83
2024: $3737.85

The value of a dollar is down 34 cents from a decade
