I have never played this game but shadowboxing (i.e.no body contact / punching air as you described it) is actually a very important part of any boxer's training (also used in other martial arts).

this would be ideal for persons who ALREADY train in martial arts, since i think this is a fun way to practise moves which you would have already done with another REAL person, thus serving as a light revision.

Punching air doesnt do much for fitness either, but it's better than nothing, probably the same mentality for this game.

Kind of have to agree with Drain here. You're punching air. How on Earth on you supposed to know the appropriate amount of energy and force you put into each block or strike? If you want learn self-defense, going to an actual instructor's going to be way more beneficial, and probably more life-saving than relying on your Kinect.

No more than a keep fit game really, as long as people understand that then no harm done. The problem I see is in it instilling people with a false sense of security, and I am referring mainly, but not exclusively, to women here. There is NO substitute for knowing how it feels to be grabbed properly by someone with the full intention of doing you harm, you only get that in a good class that encourages rough play and proper sparring.

there's barely a second of actual gameplay footage shown and even that's tiny in the background. Clearly this is a load of bull, no way you can truly get a handle on self defence without an actual trainer.

This game is HORRIBLE. You can't even start the freaking game. You have to punch the air like 50 times before it recognize it. And it can't even recognize which arm you're using. Why can't they even make a start screen, A FREAKING START SCREEN, that works. This game is TERRIBLE.
