Sacred fire burning in Winnipeg for toddler killed

A sacred fire is burning for four days in honour of Xavia Skye Lynn Butler, whose death in June is being investigated as a homicide. Joanne Roberts reports.

So… the cousin had custody, and then the mother got custody which led to the infants death…. Arrest the mother… she’s at least criminally negligent, not reporting the loss of her child seems highly highly highly suspicious.

This little girl had carers who loved her, but was still put back with her birth mother. Kids can't choose, especially babies, and they end up being abused or worse, killed.

Sorry but I an going to say the quiet part out loud, untill we stop paying these single moms to have kids that they don't want this will never stop. many Native parents are encouraged to sepparate so they can get more more social assistance . The divorce rate in the Native community is about 95% go figure? the family stucture in the native communities has totaly disintegrated as is the case here. Native kids need a father as do all kids, we need to encourage that not discourage it. "every child Matters" except the ones that are still alive and living on the reservation it would seem? It's time to stop with the useless platitudes and Tshirts and do something about it!
