Russia says NATO talks ‘unsuccessful’ as Poland warns of war

The Polish foreign minister has warned that the risk of war in the OSCE region is greater than any time in the last 30 years.
The OSCE meetings in Vienna are the latest round of negotiations this week to try and de-escalate tensions between Kyiv and the Kremlin.
Russian President Vladimir Putin's spokesperson has called the talks "unsuccessful".

Poland has a good reason to be worried. It had to fight the USSR back in the 1920s, then fight both Germany and the USSR in 1939. Was ruled over by the Soviet Union until the collapse of the USSR. If Putin really wants to restore the old Russian empire. Poland could be next.

I love how, in all of this, according to Russia: the _real_ "security threat" nations need to consider and prevent is the possibility that Russia won't be able to invade its neighbors whenever it chooses. Like, that's what they're saying. They would rather start a war than let Ukraine join a defensive alliance with Europe and the United States.

I think that says a lot more about Russia than it does about NATO.

I get the idea of Russia wanting a Sphere of Influence. To them, it makes sense and they find it unacceptable that the US has allied nations so close to its borders. I get that.
But, in reality, how is that supposed to work on a world scale?
China demands the same, so do the 3 superpowers have a right to essentially carve up the globe into 3 regions?
Russia gets Eastern Europe and Central Asia?
China gets southeast Asia and the eastern Pacific?
The US gets western Europe and the Americas?
And the smaller counties are just supposed to accept that? What about India? Are they forced to bend the knee to China because of geography? And Japan? Poland? Hungry? Australia?
What about Cuba? or Venezuela?
Don't individual nations have a say in their future?
And what gives a country the right to even have a sphere of influence in this manner? The fact that they can make it happen? The fact that they have nuclear weapons?
Is that the world Russia wants?
Ukraine doesn't want to be part of Russia. Doesn't that matter anymore? And if it doesn't, then why? And then why should it matter for any nation? That sounds to me like a return to the old Imperialistic policies that twice led to World Wars
