Can NATO and Russia bridge their differences? | Inside Story

A high-stakes meeting between Russia and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization over Ukraine has ended without a breakthrough.
Politicians and military men from both sides said significant differences remained during what they described as frank and open discussions.
More talks are underway, but failing to reach an understanding means the risk of armed conflict in Europe is very real.
Both NATO and the U.S. rejected the Kremlin's demands on security - among them a guarantee that the military alliance will not accept Ukraine and other former soviet nations as members.
So does diplomacy still have a chance?

I don’t think so Russia is not going to back down and NATO is looking for trouble

Why is stoltenberg talking for Ukraine? Ukraine has no NATO/ u.s. backing militarily. Ukraine is alone in defending itself. Get over it!!!

If USA can feel itself insecure with Russian missiles in Cuba then Russia can also feel itself insecure with NATO (USA) missiles in Ukraine.

I really appreciate how Mr Glenn analyses, unlike many others. His assessment is not biased and is well weighted and not full of misinformation.

It's not up to Russia to decide who joins NATO.

What he's doing is telling you he doesn't want rockets pointed at he's country from next door. Let Russia put missiles in Cuba or Mexico pointing at America.

Last time us discovered USSR missiles in Cuba jfk declared war without office consolidation) so why would Russia welcome this now near its boarders?

Why ask something that is impossible? Let's ask first what's NATO's real purpose after the Soviet Union broke up?

Ajazira intro of Ukraine crisis is truely factual and I am impressed by the truth of it. Why is NATO and the USA standing in the way off the usually needed bilateral Agreements between two Nations(Russia and it's neighbours eg. Ukraine and Georgia). Remove NATO and the USA from the equation and the problems will be Resolved! "Forget the misrepresentations and the miscarriages"

Russia had not seen "adequate consideration of three key demands regarding NATO expansion, the renunciation of the deployment of strike weapons systems near Russian borders, and the return of the [NATO] bloc's military infrastructure in Europe to the state of 1997, when the Russia-NATO founding act was signed." Thanks
