A drive in Burger place i worked at a while ago had something like this. Less complicated though. You had to ask for a token slightly smaller than a dime i think. You put the slug in the slot, then turned the knob and the slug pressed the stop out of the way that let the knob retract the latch that then would allow the door to open once the native door knob was turned. Two handed process if i recall. It was such a great design that all you really needed to open the door was a screwdriver or knife to lever the coin op latch back while turning the regular knob. The restrooms were in a vestibule that was accessed on the outside by customers as i described. However it was also serviced by a door inside the restaraunt that was accessible from that vestibule. No one ever hard locked the outer door, they figured that little coin op deal was good enough. The inner door was supposed to be hard locked but it wasnt a very good door or lock even if it had been used. There was an alarm on that door, but not on the outer door. This would allow someone to easily gain access to the inner door with nearly perfect cover while they figured out how to by pass the other 'security measures' such as they were.
Like simply going up through the drop ceiling and across the wall. But back to the coin op lock, the tokens dropped into a simple box at the bottom secured by a single bible pin lock.
I do know where to crash if im ever hard up for a place to sleep.

So you need to spend a penny to spend a penny :-)

BTW On a similar note - From a Glasgow Toilet in the 1950s (According to my mother)

Here I sit broken hearted.
Paid a penny and only farted.

I'm guessing the company name came from the fact that it probably originally cost a nickle to get into the toilet?

Just imagine what someone could do with a core like this is they wanted to make a challenge lock. If I ever get hold of one I would love to make one.

If you put some security pins, some serrated and spool with threads, and cut the face off and attaching it from the inside with a C-clip allowing the front to turn this would be a hell of a lock to get into.

Nice video 👍
Would it be possible to tension the lock with a strong magnet (like the Sparrows magneto) directly on the front plate so you do not interfere with any pin?

I wonder if you could use a drop of superglue on the center post to glue it to the base so you can use the post to rotate the lock?

maybe you can use a drill with phillips drill bit and a rubber band on that floating middle piece and you will unlock it, this method is used to unscrew a screw with a damaged head.

Back in WWII the Canadian government granted the U.S. access to take a Willys Jeep full of researchers and equipment onto the Columbia icefield. when the researchers came back it was not in the Jeep, as they said it had fallen through the ice. To this day it has not yet come out the bottom of the Glacier...
