(1179) Challenge: Blair's LockSmith Special Picked & Gutted

preview_player
Показать описание
This special Challenge was built by Aaron (Blair's LockSmith) and is particularly nasty. I picked and gutted it at the end.

In this video I take on a hand-built challenge lock designed to defeat picking attempts.

Whipped videos highlight custom made locks sent to the LockLab as a challenge. They contain innovative modifications, unique security designs, and careful craftsmanship. Challenge lock design is difficult, to say the least, but many LockSporters excel in lock design and hand craftsmanship. Because there is such innovation among LockSporters, many manufacturers pay attention to the WHIPPED videos and incorporate the security techniques into their own locks.

There is only ONE RULE: The key must work. You are free to cover up the key to prevent me from seeing it until after I successfully pick (or fail to pick) the lock. I will make THREE 10-minute attempts (down from six 10-minute attempts in April 2018). If I fail to open it in that time, it will become a WHIPPED video. If you are interested in sending a challenge lock, please use this address:

I've been watching this channel for the last couple of weeks and enjoy your work. I was wondering if it's possible to run a sharpie line across the face of the lock to enhance the movement of the plug as you work on picking it? Thank you for all your hard work.

I have a lock that does exactly this. It's just a commercial defiant I'm using to learn spools, but it's a pain for me. It will get to a false set, and everything feels seized up, or set. I think pin one is a very short spool, if I really give it some force, I'll get counter-rotation and set, then I have to do the same all the way back at pin 4. It's super easy to overset or drop everything, but it's been great practice.

Love watching you work Bill but would you consider doing a video of yourself picking a basic spool pin cutout lock so we can see exactly what you are doing and how you are doing it. Entranced as I am at your videos I am not getting any better at my own picking! 😁

Bill, I don’t know if it would have any use in lock pin making, but there is a very small lathe on the market you would get some mileage from in your other hobby that’s meant for turning armatures when you’re rebuilding small electric motors. It may be possible to use it to crank out some weirdo pins since the chuck is small enough to grab motor shafts. Those homemade pins and the fact that I’m sitting here tinkering with one of the motors for my RC truck while watching this made me think about those little lathes.

The gutting still is the only thing Bill is messing up almost half the time:)

Ha! I got my 40mm brinks open before you got yours! Mine doesn't have fort Knox warding, though, it's just a stock 5 pin...whatever. point is, I'm getting better, thanks to you bill. Once I understand the mechanism, I can get into almost anything. Thought about locking all the locks I've got together into a ball and mailing them to bill, just to see how long it takes to get through them.
Also, that polymer practice lock everyone says is so easy (it is) is re-pinable. Had my 12yo drop wierd pins in it. it's alot harder. Nothing like what we see here, just spools and a t pin. I'm scared of the pin-in-pin, though.
Strangly, the 3 pin luggage lock is the hardest one to pick. It's so...tiny and delicate. Really easy to overset.

Keyway's either Corbin, Ruswin, or Corbin Russwin. They do some nice zig-zaggy ones. :)

Im surprised your middlefinger still seems oke with the continued stress from the pick, ever tried picking with your Other hand? Would be fun to see you try it.

What you need is a mobile power bank you can ones for like 25$ that will extend your camera recording up to 4 times longer so long as the camera recharges through USB.

Get a power adapter for your camera so the battery never runs out.

Driver #4 looks kind of like one of the pins from the bullet lock I sent in. Did that lock get sent to Aaron and then he recycled a pin from it?
