You don't have to cut it up, but it does minimise the chance of getting chunks of banana in the strainer. It really depends on how good your blender is.

U can also use a coffee filter put it over a couple and hold it and dump in the mixture and push out the mixture without the chunks but don’t squeeze/push to hard

Chilled ethanol maintains the temperature, if its warm or hot DNA molecules will remain entact.

What are the reasons why bananas are commonly used in dna extraction experiments?

Probably because if you don't centrifuge it the large parts won't become present as large parts and thus you won't be able to remove them through the strainer.

Can you weigh the extracted dna, I want to do my experiment for bio class on how fruits with more seeds have more dna but I need to prove it quantitatively with the weight of each sample

Detergent does not break down the fat molecules, it just makes them soluble in water.

Would this be a good starting material for making elemental phosphorus? I like that it does not contain calcium ions as bone ash does, and it is incredably difficult to rip a phosphorus atom away from a calcium atom, as it requires white heat temperatures, ....but with dna, heating it to red heat mixed with charcoal just might liberate white phosphorus.

Would it be unpurified DNA, since no RNAase was used? I still love this experiment it is really cool and I think I will do it just for fun lol
