Thanks for covering this. Great points made. I agree with you. The purpose of my video is that I want EVERYONE to enjoy training and have fun in the gym. If someone hates deadlifts then rather then forcing them to do it id rather they do whats fun.
Having Fun is underrated. Having a phed teacher background I really just want to make people realize its ok to not train using exercises they are not comfortable with even if those are obviously great exercises.

I honestly think the point of don't train stuff that you don't enjoy should be the biggest takeaway from greggs video. The gym needs to be enjoyable otherwise you quit. It doesn't matter what shitty exercises you do in the gym it is better than not going at all. If doing a structured program from your coach is boring and making you want to quit gym thats the first thing you need to fix. I change up my training every 3-6 months as what I enjoy changes. For example recently i've been loving leg training and hitting it hard twice a week and have seen great gains. Sure my arm training may have been on the back burner in terms of motivation and dedication for a while but i have enjoyed every week in thy gym and gone consistently. Which as we all know consistency is key...

You can build a killer physique without the bench, squat, and deadlift. Greg said this and he is 100% correct.

Such an amazing video of revelations! I love the honesty in this one. Great stuff man. Question... have you ever tried Next Level Diet? I got a muscle-building meal plan from them, and I love it.

I used to think ATG squatting was ego lifting and super bad for your joints.

HOWEVER, after watching Ivan (Squat everyday), kneeovertoes and Zach I figured out that I just lacked a solid foundation in the full range of motion. I stripped down all the weight from all of my lifts and just dedicated a lot of time into building a good base of strength.

I started ATG squatting with just 135lbs last year and just this last weekend hit a 290lb ATG squat PR. So I do THINK everyone should squat.

The issue is not “are barbell squats good”, they are indisputably good. There is probably no better method of developing lower body / trunk strength. The question rather is is it worth my time to get good at the barbell squat and is it going to help me achieve my goals. While it’s absolutely the case that it’s probably beneficial to the vast majority of people to develop the kinaesthetic ability to perform a properly executed barbell squat or loaded squat in general, a lot of people just want kind of semi-decent results and then to move on with their life. They don’t want to invest much mental resources into being good at lifting weights, they just kind of wanna get a little bit stronger build a little bit of muscle and look a little bit better. This probably describes the vast majority of the gym gowing population. And the reality is there is a higher injury risk when using movements like the barbell squat. This is not because the barbell squad is inherently more dangerous, but just simply because of human psychology and the way we can expect most people to behave. While I agree we should be trying to prune the culture of gyms so that people don’t make bad decisions underload, the reality is that almost everyone has a story regarding this error. For most people the juice is not worth the squeeze, however this is a very good video and probably the best case you could make.

He's right that no one needs to do those any specific lifts unless they compete in those lifts.

As I get older I realise that fitness is very much a personal journey, both in terms of your own goals and what works for you with your lifestyle (volume/ intensity/ recovery ). I think squats are GOAT’d but would just encourage people to do lower body exercises overall. A lot of people are frightened of the movement from a mobility and risk point of view. It is scary for the average gym goer to see their BW on another persons back “at-risk” of falling on them.

What coach Greg is saying is totally true. Bit that doesn't mean it is good advice. Exactly like you said, what are the chances that a viewer is reasonably choosing not to squat after putting their work in including competing in powerlifting like coach Greg vs looking for an excuse not to squat because it's hard and it hurts their fee fees? As coach Greg has a very wide audience the latter is more likely. I do think the powelifts are overrated for Late intermediate-advanced lifters but that's a tiny population compared to beginners and intermediates making excuses.

Greg extrapolating his own experience/opinion to the whole population happens way too often.

As a greek, I love the fact that Zack makes himself sound more articulate via the use of Greek words. Keep it up big man !!!

I feel a lot of people that are stiff in a particular joint tend to be the ones that don’t like particular exercises around that joint (obviously). Completely understandable and the patience to mobilize joints to achieve sustainable, pain-free motion is a pain. However, the people that make it a priority to achieve mobility are the ones that go from not liking a certain exercise to loving that exact same exercise.

I agree with Greg because he literally says gains which I interpret as muscle size. U don't need any of the big three for that. Weighted bodyweight exercises, dumbbells, and machines can get anyone trying to pack on muscle the stimulus they need to grow if their eating enough.

I think you basically nailed the line between "Do what works for you and don't be afraid to ditch popular movements" and "Don't skip shit just because it's hard and you don't like it". While I think you can get away with some level of skipping shit you don't like, if that is your approach to every lift as a beginner or intermediate you're going to have issues. On the otherhand dogmatism toward, say, the squats superiority is excessive in many places. I no longer rely on squat to be a primary tool for leg growth, it's not a good fit for me. I still spend time with with some blocks because I care about my strength in the movement, and I can squat over 600lbs so I haven't failed to learn or explore the movement. But the leg press, hack squat and other machines have proven to be a superior tool for growth to me.

My son coached his 68 year old father inlaw to do squat. He couldnt do the movement at first. So my son had him train the squat in the smith machine. After a few weeks the strength and mobility was had and they then went on to free standing.

I do think squats and deadlift are very beneficial exercises.
But of course no exercise is a must.

You also have to take into account how long the person has been working out. in Most cases squats might be the most important(form, bracing and overall strength). Give a great a foundational base for strength. If you are just starting out there may be some stuff you hate but, will pay off in the long run. If you have a few years under your belt and have a good feel for what exercises work and end up dropping something that may make your whole workout miserable dropping it isnt a huge thing.

When I was doing squats, deadlifts with high weights, it was too demanding for me for being able to at the same time participate in social activities, take care about my family, excel at job etc.
Now Im doing other leg excercises and have even better legs (in terms of hypertrophy and leaness) while not being fatigued.

Squat used to be very uncomfortable for me for years. I even developed hip bursitis at some point, which annoyed me for months. Then I discovered "How To Squat For Your Anatomy" by Squat University and "Squat Series" by Alexander Bromley and now it's literally my favorite compound movement. I highly recommend both resources to everyone. Previously I struggled with 60kg. Now I use 100kg for reps just to relax and let the blood flow. No exaggeration
