As Deadpool has been growing in popularity over the last few years, it's only natural that questions regarding the merc with a mouth arise. One of the most frequently asked questions I get is whether or not Deadpool is a mutant. So, is he? While his healing factor given to him by the Weapon X program did come from Wolverine, that does not make Wade Wilson a mutant. But what if his terminal cancer was a mutation?!

Every Wednesday, Comic Misconceptions explores the incredible stories, fascinating ideas, and mind-blowing theories regarding comic books and the rich history and culture that surrounds them!

Is he a mutant? Well, after all this information I can safely say...I don't know. You've cast doubt over everything I've ever said and done.

Don't worry, Matt Patt won't sue. He isn't the Fine Bros

What if Deadpool team up with She-Hulk? They will break the 8th Wall.

You know, I've never thought about this. I forgot that Deadpool was just a dude experimented on who wanted to cure cancer and yet got sucked deep into the X-men mythos. GREAT SCOTT! Pun-intended.

Also, side note theres a story arc called "The Good, Bad & the Ugly" that explores this concept of his body, healing and the mutation. It's a good read and played for straight vs his silly Chimmychungas personality.

That MatPat refrence alone earns you a like. 😂

His cancer mutation would have to be caused by the X-gene.

I liked your Henrietta Lacks idea.

Deadpool, as described, might not have cancer at all. Instead, some of his cells have a hyper division property which mimics cancer (with the growth being non-specific in nature, which is why cancer kills you... You need a liver, but it grows a tumor of "meh" cells instead, interested only in rapid division.)

Without the healing factor, this would kill him, but MOST mutations (they are real, by the way, if rarely ending in laser eyes) tend to not be beneficial to the organism that is born with them. One out of a large number (call it a million?) will be viable. One out of a million of those will be beneficial...

So a lot more mutants in the Marvel universe would have powers or more likely detriments, than had super abilities.

Also, if we have ten people on the X-Men, their world would probably have one million viable mutants for each one of them. The trick there is that most of those people, while viable and living as people normally do, probably wouldn't know they were mutants at all. I mean, if you have four bones in your ear instead of three... That isn't going to change your life much.

So, yes, I can see the argument of Deadpool being a mutant with super cancer as very allowable.

Going from what I've seen about his history is that he had insane hand/eye co-ordination and combat skills... one could argue its a mutation that allows him to reach such superhuman levels to deflect bullits with swords like it was childs play with his cancer being a side effect of his mutation. Aslo, I would doubt the regeneration component of the healing factor is whats keeping him in check but rather an immune component which is seeking and destroying the cancer while the regeneration is what keeps him alive, (don't forget that Wolverines mutation includes a supercharged immune system), and would make sense of his cratered appearance where tumers should be creating bumps and deformities. Without the immune component, the cancer cells would effectively userp the regeneration ability to multiply even more aggressivly.

I love how the game theory refrence ends in please don't sue me.

i love it, that actually makes a lot of sense. even though his mostly known ability is the healing factor (plus the other abilities he gained in the program)it might be considered as what the adamantium skeleton is for wolverine. but what you said about the other things do actually make a lot of sense

Oh god. What if Scott and MatPat do a collab video though?!

Like someone else said that sue me line was funny. I never thought about his cancer that way. It would be something to really think about when you break it down the way you did

Just casually listening to this video in one ear while I look at another tab, and then...
"That's just a theory..."
A GAME THEORY!
Just decided I like this channel a little bit more than I already did.
