America-class - The power of America's new generation of amphibious ships

The America-class is designed to put ashore a Marine Expeditionary Unit using helicopters and MV-22B Osprey V/STOL transport aircraft, supported by AV-8B Harrier II or F-35 Lightning II V/STOL aircraft and various attack helicopters. The new amphibious assault ships will ensure America's global presence now and in the future, meeting most mission needs, despite China's powerful rise.

Which is why the USN decided to scrap the USS Bonhomme Richard which caught on fire in San Diego. The cost to repair was almost as much as building a new America class

These ships are great additions to the Fleet.
As auxiliary carrier they will indeed have better flexibility and power than the current Chinese Carriers.

so the US actually has 21 aircraft carriers . 11 full size super carriers . and 10 light carriers

i wouldn't count on all of the others having well decks the era of heavy armor in amphib ops is fading and the navy has a new interest in smaller carriers to operate with the fleet carriers!!

These are also great as auxiliary carrier, in that role it has twice the power of the Chinese carriers. But unfortunately they decided to put the well deck back in reducing the size of the auxiliary carrier air wing.
