GE Appliances Top Load Washer - Deep Fill

THANK YOU MUCH!!!! I have had my deep fill GE machine for 3 years now and have been so gosh darn frustrated with it because it would never fill enough to clean the clothes. After watching your video and holding down the "DEEP FILL" button for the 3 seconds it does the deep fill. I SUCCESSFULLY ADD MORE WATER! The water level was 80% of the tank. First, chose the "Bulky items" mode and no others. After, hold the button "Deep fill" 3 seconds until you hear the little music (maybe you'll have to press shortly "deep fill" and then hold it for 3 seconds, or maybe the opposite, try some alternatives like that). You have to press the deep fill BEFORE pressing "start" button. The deep fill mode doesn't work with "colors cycle", you absolutely need to chose "bulky items cycle". In my case, i chose "extra heavy" soil level and cold water.

I have had the most frustrating experience ever messing with this machine. BUT tonight I think I have finally figured it out the solution, at least it worked for me anyway. If you haven’t already done so, you need to check “THE SIPHON EFFECT” on your drain. Because I had previously experienced the drain hose coming out of the wall with a previous washer I had shoved this one way down in into the wall when I got this new GE washer. Apparently it cannot be too far in or it will create what is known as the siphon effect. What was happening with mine is it would fill and within a minute there was only inches of water in there for almost the entire remainder of the wash load. There was no way the clothes could possibly get clean with such little water levels. So I backed the drain hose way back out of the standpipe to the 7” GE recommends, and believe it or not that has solved my problem as far as I can tell. It was an immediate fix—so simple I still can’t believe it!! It would definitely be worth a try if you haven’t already checked this. That explains why I never had more than a couple of inches of water in the wash tub no matter what– – because it was emptying out to equalize the pressure as soon as it would fill, that much more would siphon out and the pump was never even engaged. Which also rendered deep fill useless. I sure hope this can someone who’s had as much hate for their brand new GE HE “Deep Fill” machine as I have! 😤

PRO TIP: You must hold deep fill for 3sec BEFORE you press the start button in order to get a true deep fill. If you press it once after you start the cycle, you only get the 3 extra gallons. (Think of it like add a garment feature). Also for this model shown GTW460 or GTW465 Deep fill will not work on the colors/normal cycle due to energy star regulations. If you do not care about water usage, I would highly recommend using the DEEP RINSE also under the options knob regardless of using fabric softener. This can sometimes help with out of balance loads too.

If you want the easy max fill cycle use BULKY ITEMS. This will default to the max water level but does have a slightly slower final spin speed.

Finally, if you want more water I would recommend not using precise fill. This setting is designed to sense the weight of the load and add water accordingly. In my experience you get more water using a load size of MAX or SUPER then holding the deep fill for 3sec before pressing start. You should hear a different chime.

I wish i would have read these comments before i purchased mine. They thi k they are saving water, but now i have to do smaller loads using more water, when i could have done one or two big loads..

I wish I had looked into this machine before I purchased. I'm here trying to figure out how to make it add water!! I just got it home two days ago!! I'm exchanging it for the Maytag and cross my fingers!!

This is Kristina's mom commenting. This machine is garbage! We just purchased this washer over the summer. Machine no longer fills up 3/4 full. Maybe 1/4 now. I want to be able to wash larger loads again! This is maddening! We shouldn't have to pay for service on a washer less than a year old. GE, I see we are not the only ones complaining about this. These washers should be recalled.

The "Deep Fill" option sounds great, but it doesn't work!

I absolutely despise this washer, I bought it new, have tried to use it for several years, and it is without a doubt the worst washing machine I've ever owned. The Deep Fill doesn't work at all with any jockeying around with the buttons, it takes FOREVER to do anything, and just changing the settings results in the slowest "thinking time" of any device I've ever seen. I will NEVER buy another GE appliance again. I'm going to go buy a used Kenmore like I used to have. At least it worked, and very easy to set.

The top loaders are better I would rathe have 22 gallons of water for my clothes to wash than 3 cups of water.

I’m having trouble with my washer once it’s done and I’m getting ready to take the clothes out to put in the dryer but my clothes are still soaking wet. Almost as if it’s not spinning them dry because they are wet to the point where I can squeeze them with my hands and a bunch of water will come out

We bought this washer and what a pain in the rear it has been.
DEEP FILL: has worked exactly ONCE, ever.
Add additional water: has never worked.

I phoned into customer support. I had to schedule a phonecall because you were so backed up. I get a phone call back later from some lady who I'm pretty sure was Wanda Sykes. After over 30 minutes on the phone, I get talked in circles, not a single DEFINITIVE ANSWER about this washing machine except to unplug and wait 5 mins before plugging it in.
Oh and lets not forget about the load that never spinned. And I had to take it out sopping wet.
It washes well, but the features aren't working and the washer should not need to be unplugged and reset as a normal way of fixing it.

I just got this washer today. Big mistake. I cannot figure it out for my life. It is not washing, filling, or even completing a load. I am done. I am using the 24 hour return to get a new one or get a refund and buy a different brand washer. This is very disappointing because I had to save money to get a washer. Now I got one for over $800, with the warranty, and installation. This is a very difficult machine to try to use. It is not user friendly at all. I just want a machine I can turn on to wash and walk away until it is done. I think the big issue is having a computer brain on the washer. What a waste of my time and money

I bought this GE Washer from Costco on line for 2 weeks . Now I have been so frustrating and out of my mind with the issue of water filling ( never get enough water level as I expected ).... I had to re-wash by hand to keep clothes get better clean ... OMG !
Had to return back to Costco for Peace in my mind, and will look for the standard washer Machine . This kind of freeking Washer is wasting my time. Amen !

The deep fill on our washer doesn't work anymore. Tried resetting the washer and still nothing. Doesn't even add the 3 gallon extra water when you press it 1 time either.

Just purchased this washer. Washed one load, water doesn't fill all the way up. Settings were water level max, cold water, colors, Auto soak 30min and deep fill held down until the noise sounded. Filled up about 2/3 of the drum and stopped. Tried pushing the deep fill button more, wouldn't add anymore water. Then when I'd open and close the lid, it'd give a couple pumps of water real quick, usually two and then stop again.
