I got stopped by airport security for my NAIL POLISH🫢💅

When I was coming back from Alaska after a six week ecology course, a bunch of my fellow students had bought these homemade jams from our landlady. They got flagged for being liquids but no one wanted to waste it so everyone got to watch half a dozen uni students chugging jam in the security line. 😂

My makeup wipes in my backpack set it off. I usually save a wipe if it’s minor my used (like if I wipe my finger off on it, or if I needed to wipe up something I botched) since I don’t like to waste a wipe that’s 99% clean, so there was one on top that was kinda shoved back in. TSA took the top one out and was like “oh, okay. You’re good to go”. 🙄 needless to say, I didn’t put that wipe back in.

Btw, as someone who works at the airport on the ramp (handling luggage and stuff), I never check my bag unless absolutely necessary. If you do have to check a bag, make sure it 1) is hard-sided (various reasons, but mainly you don’t want a heavy bag thrown on top of your own bag if you have something fragile in there, plus bags can fall off the beltloader and onto the ground, as well as being rain resistant/proof); 2) has 4 (WORKING!) roller wheels (4 working wheels means it’s easier to roll to the other person in the bin who’s stacking bags, which saves time and potentially gets your flight out sooner); 3) DON’T overstuff your bag. Your zipper will break, and then your stuff falls out. We try our best to get stuff back in, but then you’re probably getting it back and wondering if someone stole from you (no, they didn’t – not at my station anyways); 4) for the love of all that is good, don’t just saran wrap your belongings into a giant ball (if you’re that person, we hate you. Sorry, not sorry.) In a similar vein, if you want to protect your suitcase, get a bag cover.

The DR airport is nuts. This was 10 years ago, I once had to bribe them to let my suitcase through to Canada, the same one I had brought in they wanted to charge me $400 to bring home. I argued for so long one of the desk people finally took me aside and said ‘just pay anything, we just want the money, we’ll take anything’. I paid $100 and got out of there.

I had a big pack of coloured pencils in a metal case, once. It was apparently a "laptop" for about 10 minutes. I got asked 4 times if I didn't take my laptop out of my bag or something until I took it out in front of them and opened the darn container. Security is silly.

Did they give it all back or did they fully confiscate all the nail polish? I’ve seen places that won’t let mothers pump their breast milk and save it for their baby. They would confiscate it. I’ve also seen that with other ridiculous things where they will kinda just take whatever they want to upset people.

I had them tell me I couldn’t bring baby formula. I told that lady either they were paying the $30 to replace it, or I was going to be taking it. I took it.

I've had SO MUCH TROUBLE with shiny things!!! I can only conclude that the x-ray makes shiny stuff look weird—so obviously it was just blinded by the holo 😂

My bag got flagged by TSA and I forgot I left a body scrub in my carry on bag. Whatever machine they used to test it didn't like what was in it so I had to get a full pat down ✌️. I had to check my bag and the TSA agent didn't even screw the lid on properly so the body scrub leaked all over my bag.

I was "selected for additional screening" once when we where running late already and I got questioned for a deck of cards

As a flight attendant from DR I can tell you that if you bring too many of the same thing they will confiscate it, also if you bring food(in dr we have tons of farms and seeds and stuff are prohibited bc it can ruin our fauna and flora, it has happened).

Its mostly bc there's a lot of illegal trafficking that a lot of retailers do bc the customs taxes are hella expensive in the country.

Sorry for everyone who got their things taken, just try to bring the things you know you're going to use in the amount of time you're staying 😔🙏

I got flagged for carrying those mini bottles of perfumes, which were never returned to me, I still seethe to this day… I made sure I ticked all the right boxes before hand, mini bottles, in check in, less than 100 ml put together etc

On the way back from Florida, I had my bag pulled and searched because I had fudge from Honeydukes. Apparently when you x-ray fudge, it looks just like plastic explosives! Who knew?🤷‍♀️😅

My cat food got flagged as an explosive device in 2020 when I was flying back home with my cat. It was ridiculous and I'm just like yall can trash it if you want idrc he's got food at the house. Almost missed my flight cuz they had to call people down 😂
