A very high end drive at the time, with 11 platters inside. It's seeking sound is very loud, I love it! Despite the arm having to move 22 heads arround the seeking times are actually quite good.

Oh men, this engine starting - a speed that tends towards infinity.
Nostalgia :)

I bet this was pulled from a Vectra XU 6. It was HP's most advanced Intel-based workstation before the Kayak series and sported 2 Pentium Pro's, a Matrox Millennium, and integrated 50-pin SCSI. The top drive option was a 4 GB SCSI, so someone paid a lot of money for the system this was pulled from.

Yep I had a couple of the 50 pin variants of this in a Windows Me Tower. I liked the spin up and seek test. I remember it like it was yesterday.

I really liked the Seagate SCSI drives back in the late 90s early 2000s. I had gathered quite a few of them, most 3.5" half height that had a very noisy motor. I also purchased an ST410800N for 7€ and two ST423451W for 7€50 each on eBay in 2004. I still have the order confirmation eMails but the drives are long gone. I believe these had 16 or 18 platters and were a brick. You could literally kill someone with these banging them on someones head. The ST410800N we used in our rehearsal room PC for recording. Don't know what happened to the two ST423451W anymore. The 3.5" drives I used in a homemade server using the most pretty big tower ever build: The Vobis Highscreen SkyTower. But it was so noisy I hardly ever used it and all these drives are long gone. Too bad, should have kept them ... And most importantly I should have kept the SkyTower. But since space is always an issue ...

I’d like to hear more of the last drive. Interesting sounds it was making.

Are you going to make a new hard drive collection video?

Days ago i bought a TOSHIBA MQ01ABF050 and it is a 2.5 drive, it doesn't have the buzzing noise at the starting of the spinnup, is this normal?

I used to have this model. Worked well but one day it just refused to start again, motor ceased or something.

Thought of getting one for myself but on ebay they are listed for 200 to 600$. No way am i paying that for a 4GB scsi drive. Also its too bad they dont make 50 pin pcie scsi cards. Could use it in a newer system. Unless the board has pci as well as pcie
