Seagate Barracuda ATA III ST315310A hard drive sounds

Note: The sound was boosted by 12dB.

Next drive from the lot. A ATA III with virtually silent fluid bearings.
Despite the poor shipping this one has no bad or reallocated sectors.

I don't know why, but both this drive, and the 20GB one that I got in the lots from 2 months ago (which also has fdb) vibrates a lot. I put folded up bubble wrap under the drive to make the vibrations less audible.

It's interesting how the "Replace with Compaq Spare" sticker that is on it mentions "Quiet". I guess they really wanted to be sure it was replaced with another drive which also had fdb. I guess at that point some people started to pay attention to the noise their computers made.

Wow! This might be the first Barracuda ATA drive to have fluid bearings!
