I used to hate wearing cups in boxing and Muay Thai sparring. Especially boxing because they were so big and clunky if you know. I wouldn't wear them until one day I got a huge punch right to the groin that put me down. I was paralyzed. I remember thinking something popped, or I was bleeding. I had to feel myself down there. I didn't want anyone touching me for minutes. It was some of the worst pain I felt, and literally to this day 8 years later I have never sparred without a cup even with beginners. I will never forget that pain.

I trained under John Saylor. He was an olympic judo coach for 8 years and trained multiple champions, also living in Japan training under judo champions. He never wore a cup and said a lot of the Japanese did not wear one because on the ground, it creates hip movement. Lol, I always wore my cup. I lost a mma fight from a strike on the cup. I couldn't imagine taking a hit without it.
