I had watched around 20 or so “how to” videos before I even bought a dirtbike. All the videos were from this channel. 🙏🏼 (thank you gumbies.) So the result of watching the videos was purchasing dirtbike. As soon as I took ownership. I was in my yard doing balance drills. Baby wheelies. Etc. all of it. By the time I caught an invite. No one believed I was a brand new rider. I remember telling one of the (not new) riders how to recover his bike on a failed hill climb. I was saying “step over the bike, now crank your bars back and forth, trust me! I saw this YouTube video.” 😂😂😂😂😂 everyone was like what YouTube channel you talking about. That was 3 years ago on a clapped out 2003 SX. I’ve now been to West Virginia, Michigan, Georgia, Alabama, Tennesee, Indiana. Headed to Texas in October this year. My life has changed. Literally because if this channel. Last year I realized this is a forever hobby. August came and I took possession of my 2021 TE300i.

I did my first hare scramble 3 weeks ago. I wanted to do one for 2 years but was intimidated. I found out a family in my neighborhood races in the series. They encouraged me to join them and we're very supportive/helpful. Having a good group of supportive riders is key to learning.

I've been in those shoes so many times, think ok I'm going out with these hard core awesome riders that have their shit together, quickly I realize I had my shit together and I stressed myself out for nothing. Its happened in snowmobiling, jeep off roading, atv rides, mountain biking and dirtbikes.
All I can do is know, my bike is in top shape, I've got everything I need. I've been riding 41 years off road, , dude I got this. So chill out and breath Ernie.
So if you are human. Its normal to stress over new things. Just smile n do your best. Cuz we all feel the same way before the ride.

I've only been riding on public land since September of last year and have encountered very nice people on trails. So far, this is one of the most inclusive and supportive sports I've been a part of!

I rode (far behind) with a bunch of faster riders in febuary. They had to wait ages for me to catch up and fix their broken bikes.
And i usually watch these vids on the throne because nothing can stop the release of the brown hostages once the multigrain toast ransom has been consumed.

Not sure how I missed this one!! When I was younger I was the one that wanted to go extreme. The group I rode with had a wide skill range so there was lots of stopping and waiting. I had no problem with it and enjoyed helping them get better. Some rides were just with us extreme guys and there was always someone willing to try some even crazier shit! Now that I am older, I'm the one they have to wait for. Everyone is usually pretty cool about it...to my face! If I don't get invited back I know they were laughing at me behind my back :-) I actually have a couple of friends that are getting back into bikes after 10-15 years off of them. I keep asking them to go riding but they keep making excuses. I suspect they don't think they are up to my speed...man, they have no idea!!!

I was introduced to hard enduro riding by a couple classmates in college that were sponsored racers. I bought Ben Kuppers old bike and started riding. Ben and Nick were the best riding buddies, they were patient and supportive, but knew when to push me. I have always and will always love gaining experience from those better than me. You never climb the ladder if you think you are on top!

I'm the 'support guy' in our group of riders, I have the most experience on bikes (still not a great rider!) and I tend to follow so I can keep an eye on the guys and be there to help if they crash, can't make an obstacle, have a mechanical failure etc.
I also tell a lot of newer riders to "Leave their ego at the front gate" - "It's not a race, it's not a freestyle MX event, only do what you're comfortable with, we're here to have fun!!"

Cross training videos helped me alot. I joined experienced rider, that was 2nd enduro ride. The terrain was rough, deep rutted clay, with steep hillclimb on the other section. But we managed well. They thought that I was experienced rider. Your videos meant alot for my riding development. I really appreciate 🙏🏻

Good topic, seen this happen over the years. A group ride from guys at work, starts out “ it’s not a race”, but very soon it all or nothing. Pace is soon ridiculous, slow riders are lagging and I decided to hang back and let the inexperienced riders follow me to evaluate my reaction. It’s ok as long as overconfidence doesn’t sway the slower rider to start taking risks and out riding themselves.
The cornerman system when social riding works the best, need to establish the rules early before any bike is ridden. The sharing of this system allows every one to take responsibility and also have a crack at your own pace. Lead rider may be exempt if new trails etc.
Most of all, every one wants to enjoy a great days ride, and get home safely.

Couldn't agree more.i have been on both sides and i also never accepted invites with the ones i know who feel like its a race more than having fun. I like having a few better than my self and a few less experienced that way we all have something to learn and something to teach. everyone having fun and enjoying
The wonderful jiy of riding.

One of the best things about riding is the group you are in. The reason to go out, spend time and money is to forget about the week and have fun. If you do not have pleasure you should change of group or sport... and it is possible to have fun in very difficult trails ... to be in a difficult situation does not mean you are not having fun! It also depends the group you are riding! Chose well your friends and the ride will be wonderful!

The guy you are talking about at the end is a very low vibration person and doesn’t ever get a second invitation to return. With the amazing group I ride with, stop to offer help at every occasion, our direction often changes as help is needed. Usually a low vibration person won’t do that and won’t want to continue to ride with us. It’s a win win.👍

After 3 days of owning a bike I went on a what they called a flat trail thru the forest. Ended up being up a mountain and 1 of the group members throttle snapped. In the distance we could hear a much more hardcore group coming up the same path. They eventually arrived and stopped and helped. Great guys and they invited us along with them. Obligingly we followed and found they were way there for much more hardcore than I had ever anticipated. Hills, enclosed Rocky spaces, 45 degree downhills over rock. I got so fatigued and dropped my bike quite a few times. But they were really nice and helpful. I learnt alot that day and it really did build my confidence to go out with them again. Sometimes you need to get dragged out of your comfort zone with the right people.

I have been on many a ride where I thought it was going to be cruisey ride and it turned out to be tough. At the time you feel like turning around and going back, but you persist if you know others will help and they usually do. At the end of these rides I feel a real sense of satisfaction that I conquered the challenge and my fear. I think I'm a better rider for doing these challenges from time to time as things that once looked impossible don't seem so bad anymore.

This is my life! I’m getting ready to go on another 6 day adventure ride on my 690! Everyone on this trip puts in way more miles than I do…and this is my 6th or 7th annual ride with this group. All past rides have always turned out well and have been awesome. I am still nervous.

Just went on my first group ride for a 54 mile desert ride with everything from dunes, to sand hill climbs, to slick rock, to nasty whoops. Just wanted to survive and not hold up the pack too much. Success, and was invited back for another one in the future. Old 01 xr400 made it but needs some love after it too. Totally relate to the video, and found a good group with most of the riders having kids older than me and kicking my ass riding lol

This video makes me realize just how good my riding buddies are, sure they push you but you don't often feel like your gonna die lol

I prefer to help and make sure we all have fun and learn how to get better at the same time. Enjoy the video ride safe.
