Sony FX3 or Sony A7S III - WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE?

Technically, the Sony FX3 has many similarities of the Sony A7SIII except for a few cinema centric features. But if they're so similar, which camera should you get?

I totally agree about the ND filter! Size is not an excuse at all. I guess there needed to be something missing so people didn't buy it instead of the FX6? Thanks for the comparison!

I do like the design and the smaller size but I think i would miss the EVF...Maybe i'll get it if I need a second cam.

I personally see what is considered to be a feature as a flaw for my workflow... I'm talking about no cage needed. Yeah ok run and gun is fun and it's going to be the camera for somebody for sure. However: I prefer to have the mounting holes with endless possibilities and combinations AND have my camera protected doing so... and for those who say "buy the FX3 and you can still put the cage", well what's the point then? The Cine Skintone thingy will come to Sony A7S III as well btw. I'm on the verge of upgrading from an older a7s2, and I think that despite the luxury of having the possibility to choose between the 2.. I will still go with a rigged Sony A7sIII with my personalized cage (money saved from the audio thingy), equipped with a Ninja V and a zoom H4n as side accessories, not to mention full Small Rig ecosystem, rails, shoulder mounts, mattebox etc etc etc.
I see more Cine a rigged a7s3 than this "Cine FX3" that out of the box is a really poorly equipped cine camera (compared to a fully rigged a7s3). Don't get me wrong, I see the interest can have to somebody, this is just my 2 cents on my kind of usage.

Sony fx3 release is weird. It is 1k more expensive in my country and is literally same camera as a7siii and has no viewfinder which is so good in summer when sun is shining every where. Grabbed a7siii recently and super happy <3

if you are in market to buy one today and didn't have a camera, which one would it be. For what I'm doing I was planning on getting A7siii but this camera intrigues me. Also can you slap on any Sony or aftermarket lenses on the FX3?

I think I would still get the a7s3 over the FX3 for my uses, of course the A1 would be the top of my list but way out of my price range (and no flip out screen, boo).

I was absolutely gutted when i purchased a A7S III the DAY BEFORE hearing about this camera. Size and weight is a huge concern of mine as im upgrading from an A6500. But after seeing yours and others videos, it seems as though this camera is much bigger than i anticipated. (Plus heavier than an A7S III too). Given the fact the A7S III is cheaper, for someone like me who doesn't use a cage and mounts everything to my gimbal, i can safely say i'm happy i got the A7S III :)

Does it balance with the handle (and a mic and wireless receiver) on the rs2? (better than a a7siii with the k3m)

Having just bought an a7S iii literally a week ago.... I can tell you that had I been paying attention I would've waited until this announcement was released and then probably gone FX3. This being said, while I would prefer the FX3 to what I have currently, I don't feel the urge to race out and buy it (and selling the a7S iii in the process to help pay for it). Especially since it appears at some point in the future the a7S iii will get S-Cinetone (eventually).

Although FX3 is good but not for me because I’m doing 75% of photos and 25% of videos. I’m still waiting for a new Sony full frame 32-36 megapixel with 4K60 and possibly good in low light.

if, as all the influencers claim, the fx3 is just an a7siii in disguise then why are they so adamant that i should stick with the a7s3 if i still take stills (insert italics here)?
