Important similarity between the two: I can't afford either

Both are FANTASTIC cameras, same internals except for the fan basically. I'd say it's a matter of what content that you'll make. Can't go wrong with either!

No shutter angle KILLS me. I can't tell you how many shots I've messed up switching between 24, 60, and 120 all the time and occasionally missing the shutter speed. I'd love to be able to lock the damn thing to 180!! Sony, please!!

Sounds cool. Really like that they added 10 bit and changed the menu system. XLR inputs for the added bonus too. I'll probably buy one in a couple of years when they bring out an fx4 and this one can be had way cheaper on the used market.

I really think FX3 missed out on so many important cinema features - true 24p, shutter angle, waveform, anamorphic mode, DCI 4K, time code - not to mention internal ND, hybrid articulating screen, removable EVF, dual bottom 1/4 screw, better LCD - that it only makes us wonder why Sony not only placed it in the FX line but also priced/spec'ed/released it so similarly/closely with A7S3. And the major addition being the XLR handle is actually not as versatile or functional as your own handle plus a separate XLR-K3M unit.

I prefer the A7SIII over the FX-3. THEY ARE the same camera. Only 2 real differences between the 2; One has an EVF, the other doesn’t and one has a handle and the other one doesn’t. Personally, I wouldn’t trade the EVF of the A7SIII for the handle of the FX-3. Moreover, the FX-3 is MORE expensive than the A7SIII for no justifiable reason I can think of. Actually I believe it would make more sense if the FX-3 was a few hundred dollars cheaper than the A7SIII and not the opposite. The A7SIII is a better deal than the FX-3. Besides the handle, the FX-3 offers no advantage over the A7SIII, yet it cost more and has less. Just my take.

Very useful review. I just want to add that tally lights' traditional function is to indicate in a multi-camera shooting scenario which camera is "hot" (being recorded and/or broadcast live) at the moment. This is especially important for each camera operator to know (so they don't do anything that wouldn't look good on air like, say, zoom in to check focus), and, secondarily, for the talent to know which camera to look at if they're speaking to camera.
Oh, and... I've heard that the reason the FX3 doesn't have internal NDs is because it does have IBIS. Apparently, with current technology, you can have one or the other, but not both.

I haven’t tested any cameras yet, but I think this FX3 has been greatly overlooked in the world of YouTube. This is the first camera that I actually feel like it is the best without having to be pushed into it. One thing I either missed or you didn’t bring up ( might have been in your neutral part) is the S-Cine mode on the FX3. What are your thoughts on that?

Thanks Dunna. finally a review rooting for the FX3. I got mine 8weeks ago. And it change my way to work.
Keep doing what you doing man

I got the FX3. Love it. Love the form factor. 4channel audio. All the frame rates I want. Cinema is what you do with your camera. Just because you pickup an Arri Alexa doesn't mean you are shooting Cinema. Cinema is more of a marketing term these days Imo.

Just watched this video a second time, and I’m reminded about the Dunna excellence! Thorough, interesting, and helpful. Can’t wait to get this camera! 💛🙏🏼

To answer why there are no internal NDs... I went to an expo where a Sony rep explained it in a seminar. Basically it's because the fx3 had IBIS. Physically you can't have internal NDs and ibis on the sensor at the same time because then the ibis wouldn't work at all. Because the ibis is shifting the sensor around to compensate for camera shake, if you added internal NDs to that sensor it would be too heavy for the ibis to move the sensor around. So it's basically just either or 🤷🏻‍♂️

I am upgrading from my a6600 to one of these two.. seems like the fx3 is a no brainer

I just spent a week with the a7siii, I filmed an interview and I filmed a few reviews of different motorcycles with it. I loved it, but the FX3 seems like it would be better suited to what I do, motorsports (reviews, events, etc), I am not overly concerned with stills but would like to take decent ones. I am a little bummed about that handle as I like using my rode wireless systems and that takes up the hot shoe. So the next major thing I shoot I will probably do the same rental but with the FX3 to really see which one I like before I buy. Great info man!

I’m an a7S III person. Really like that it has an EVF for when I’m taking photos. FX3 really should have shutter angle and waveform to be called a cinema camera. In regards to internal nd, from what I have read you can have either internal nd or ibis, not both. Why? Science.

BRO... NICE! that was a very simple and easy way to describe the benefits of fewer mps to those that are trying to learn. Kudos, my friend. 🤙😎🤙

I actually was all in for the FX3 until I saw the handle combined with the audio module. Now I'd rather take the a7sIII with the optional audio module that you can attach and detach any time you want. This is important especially for gimbal work. I dont see the FX3 on a gimbal with the handle and the audio module on top. There wont be much space if you wanna shoot in underslung mode. It's already difficult for the a7sIII with the audio module on top.

I preordered the a7s3 the day it opened. Being a small-scale production company, I just didn't have the budget to buy the FX3 when it came out months later. That release WAS annoying haha but I'm happy with the s3 and it suits my needs even though I would love to have a "cinema line" camera in my toolkit instead. My dilemma now is do I upgrade to the fx3 or save up for the fx6 so that there's a noticeable boost in capabilities. Appreciate the video! I think built-in ND's on the fx3 would gobble up the fx6 demand which Sony may not want!

2 features no one seems to think of and would be game changers: 32bit float audio and low latency Bluetooth monitoring

That's quite easy to add to a camera and whoa would that help
