Cruising has resumed in some parts of the world. With the pandemic still affecting travel and cruising, there will certainly be several changes once cruise ships are able to resume travel in the U.S. If you are looking to set sail soon, here are 12 thing you need to know about cruising after the pandemic.

If you enjoy the video, please make sure to give it a BIG THUMBS UP!

While we are excited to get back on a cruise ship, cruising after the pandemic will certainly be different. Cruise lines have already indicated that ships will be returning in a staggered roll-out. So, not all ships will be sailing once the CDC gives brands the green light in the U.S. to cruise. This is one of the major cruise changes due to the pandemic.

Not only will there be less ships, these ships will be less full. To ensure social distancing, cruise lines will be sailing at a reduced capacity. Based on recent reports, somewhere between 50 to 70% capacity is what most cruise lines are indicating for the initial return to cruising.

Along with less passengers, cruising after the pandemic will have different embarkation procedures. These will include temperature checks, and most likely, a rapid COVID-19 test before boarding the ship.

Onboard, there will be more rigorous cleaning and enhanced sanitation during the sailing. Cruise lines will also install new ventilation systems, as well as the utilization of hospital grade disinfectants and UV light technology for more thorough sanitation.

On a cruise, you won’t be able to escape social distancing. There will certainly be distancing at public venues such as restaurants and dining rooms, the theater, and even the pool deck.

Changes to cruising following the pandemic will also include alterations to dining, with no self-service and the implementation of restaurant reservations on some ships.

There will be several other changes to cruise ships due to the coronavirus. Entertainment will be modified, with more events occurring at the same time. Some cruise lines have noted they will have more showings of certain productions, as theaters will be at reduced capacity. Still, some popular events that lead to crowds, like parties, pool deck events, or game shows, will have to be modified, or cancelled at first. These are some of the changes to cruising due to the pandemic we will miss the most!

Among the other changes to cruising will be different after the pandemic includes the requirement for staff and passengers to wear masks. Yes, MSC Cruises has officially indicated that all guests will be required to wear face coverings where social distancing is not possible.

Most likely, there will also be changes to itineraries and ports of call. With travel restrictions varying for each country and destination, cruise lines will most likely opt for shorter cruises, with stops at their private islands.

Just booked a Transatlantic for April 2021. Fingers crossed we won't have so many restrictions by then.

Being a cruiseholic (15 cruises as of Dec 2019) it really saddens me that it will take a long time before experience cruises “normally”

If you're indoors, you wear a mask. If you're outside you don't need to wear a mask unless you're in close proximity to other people. My wife and I have worked in all kinds of hospitals for the last 40 years in Cardiology and Respiratory Care. I currently work at a 600 bed trauma center just south of Chicago so we're not afraid of cruising if the proper steps are taken on the ship. A ship is nowhere near as infective as a busy hospital unless people don't follow the guidelines. Even more scary than Covid-19 are the geniuses that don't wash their hands with soap and water after using the washroom. On a positive note, we're booked on the Symphony of the Seas Nov. 28th, 2020.

So...i thought this was going to be a video of you ACTUALLY cruising right now...there was helpful information here, but maybe a small shift in the title will more accurately reflect the actual content?

Will cruising be a go for November 2020?

My questions is...How long will the mask wearing and social distancing rules stay in place? I’m trying to cruise next year but I don’t know how COVID will be and how the protocols be for the cruise by then.

I am going to wait and see how effective all of these measures are. I really want to go cruising again, but some of the controls the cruise line are implementing are impossible to enforce. Cruises did not make it a week without an issue after cruising resumed in Norway. What makes you think it will be any better when cruising resumes in the US? Definitely want to see the videos regarding the implementation of these controls and cruisers adherence to them.

IF a cruise line actually enforced safety protocols I will skip all the way to the boat! I will let them take my temp, I will take a rapid test, I will wear a mask, why? The world is a beautiful place with so very many new places to experience. The mask is not over my eyes....

Cruising has just restarted-music to my ears 👂 And FYI many said I was crazy for even suggesting that we’d be back to cruising in 2020, yet here we are. You’re welcome! 😉

I’m not going on a cruise until the glorious day comes we all get to take the masks off and don’t have to keep ourselves 6 feet from each other I do believe that day could happen late 2020 or early 2021

Well that answers my question. Won’t be cruising until the plandemic is over with. No face masks while I’m cruising.
Nice video. Just subscribed

I moved my cruise on the Mardi Gras to December 2021 just to be safe. I hope it’ll be okay by then!

I'd like to see the cdc refuse American ports to the huge mega ships. Some of these monsters have up to 7000 passengers, with that number someone is bound to be sick. The amount of passenger space is irrelevant given the total.

Want to know why these cruise ships sailed despite clear, potential health hazards becoming apparent? Two reasons: 1) Money (naturally) and 2) Because we live in a global culture where no one wants to overreact...we'd rather underreact and pay the consequences instead of overreacting and being wrong. I leave it to you dear reader of which is better given what we have been going through with the present pandemic - overreacting or underreacting? You be the judge.

We would sail today. I would keep my distance but not be paranoid. Mask makes other feel more confident. I will wear around others but not while resting around pool. Let's sail!
