A Canadian company has designed a water turbine which can harvest energy in slow moving water.

"Waterotor" can work in currents as slow as 2 mph which means it could be used in almost any river, canal, or ocean current.

The company believe that "Waterotor" could be the solution for many of the world's 1.3 billion people that live without electricity.

You can make inquiries with the company via their website regarding cost and shipping.

I find it interesting that the companies YouTube videos and this one focuses more on superficial information and leaves out information such as generated power to water flow, minimum to maximum water flow ranges and possible damage in high water flow. Sounds like another snake oil.

I think this could actually have some useful applications. For instance behind the weed screen on an inland drainage pump system to recover some of the power lost while pumping.

The advantage of the solution is using slow moving waters. The torque is huge but rpms are low, so using a proper transmission will easily power a regular generator. Without a proper trasmission no generator will give any real power.

0:04 Watch that turning screws and parts = perfect to capture any rubbish(plastic bag) or hair algae in water. it will stop moving very fast in algae water or little rubbish ie plastic bag.

If it works both ways could work good for tides

Why the hell are they not using sewage treatment as an energy source as well. Anywhere water is needed you can install some form.of power gen

Water turbines have relatively high investment costs and high kWh costs!
*Due to the module price expiry, on the other hand, you can reliably generate electricity with solar moduls for 25 years at approx. 3-10 cent/kWh!*
