Join me for a how to play video for Salerno '43, a 2-player hex & counter wargame designed by Mark Simonitch and published by @GMTGames covering the Allied invasion of Italy during WW2.

This video aims to help new players get to grips with the basics of the game, rather than cover the nuanced detail of every rule.

Just watched the video playthrough and explanation of the rules having purchased this game a month ago. I'm not new to board wargaming but having read through the rules I needed a resource to watch in support of this endeavour. I have to say that the presentation and explanation of the mechanics of this game were brilliant. The pace, the tone of delivery, all of it made understanding the way this game should play out was top class 100% accurate and enjoyable to listen too. So much so I immediately subscribed to your channel. I watched a couple of other rules walk throughs for Salerno '43, and yours in my humble opinion is by a country mile the best. Thank you! I can't wait to have a game now.

I don't do board games biut this seems so impossibly complex that I am in awe that you have figured all this out. I have no idea how one remotely learns these games.

Great video. I try to avoid watching playthroughs because they often suggest tactics and strategy that I prefer to develop myself, but this intro was perfect.

A very helpful video, really helping me to internalize the rules. Thank you, you've put a lot of work into this comfortably covering a lot of detail.
One note, re: halving units at 41:38. Rule 9.1 states that you halve and round up each unit individually, not as a stack. In this case, it doesn't change the numerical value.

super video mate, many thanks for taking your time to doing it!, Iam just entering wargaming with Silver Bayoner Vietnam which seems to have very similar ruls to this game. You just made my life bit easier.

Great channel name!!! S'43 Great title. 'ZOC Bond' series! You remind me of the billiards commentators amazingly dulcet tone!

44:24 - attacker value is 12 and defender value is 7 so ratio should be 1:1, why 2:1 I dont get it to be honest.

When you use Arti support you gain a column shift right, that is the reason?

Great explanation !

Have you tried other games from this series?

Fantastic video, steering me towards getting a copy of this game just one question on the combat ratio used at 43:40, should that not be 1:1 as opposed to 2:1?

28:41 - are you sure that vehicle type units can't cross the rivers?

Rules below.

5.5 Effects of Rivers on Movement:

• Infantry Type units(2.3.3) pay +1 MP to cross an unbridged river
hexside.

• Vehicle Type units may only cross unbridged River hexsides
(during a non-Rain turn—see 22.4) if they start adjacent to the
hexside, use Tactical Movement, and their first hex of movement
is to cross. Such units are handicapped after crossing—place a
½ Eff marker on the unit or stack (5.7).

I've read the opinion that due to terrain, the ZOC bonds don't matter as much in this game. Is that true? I wanna get one of the smaller footprint games but wonder if Holland is better for putting the 'system' in the best light. I've also just thought about going with Stalingrad since there are smaller scenarios in that box.

29:54 Infantry can't cross 2 unbridged mountain hexsides with tactical movement.
