How did Darth Maul survive being cut in half? Because the Sith have a real problem letting go of life. Jedi have the potential to let go, become one with the Force, and live on within the Cosmic Force. That’s what being a Force ghost is. It’s about surrendering to something bigger than yourself. But the Sith don’t want to surrender to anything. They want to conquer. They know they have no potential for life after death, and so they cling to power and life. That’s why Palpatine is so concerned with achieving immortality through the Force. Or why some Sith like Darth Momin will wind up embedding their spirit into objects like his helmet. It’s a sad, limited life, but it’s something. In Maul’s case, his rage and desire for revenge against Obi-Wan Kenobi strengthened his connection to the dark side of the Force. It sustained him, but also drove him completely insane, and he needed the help of the Nightsister Mother Talzin to return to any semblance of his former self. #starwars

Maul is definitely one of those characters I thought was unnecessary to bring back but was glad they did.

Also it's worth mentioning Darth Sion from the legends timeline and KOTOR2 game who was also too angry to die.

We should really be seeing more haunted stuff throughout the galaxy, but maybe the Sith took care of that in the thousand years they spent out of the public eye.

Shoutout to the Legends Darth Sion, who is less of a Sith and more of a shambling bag of scar tissue and broken bones that is kept moving by his own hatred. If you play as a woman, his respect and possible love of your character represent his potential death. He also just kinda sucks. He leads a sad life full of anger and anguish, only able to get struck down again and again.

I'd like to see how he survived the fall. I have to imagine he reached out with the Force and pushing against opposite sides of the wall to slow down, and then against the ground to cushion the blow, but it would still be nice to know exactly how he stopped the fall killing him, and then eventually finding himself on Lotho Minor.

Did Darth Maul have a story? I remember him as a lame gimmick and cannot remember why he was even fighting the Jedi.
