Air Bubbles On Painted Walls

How do you fix air bubbles on painted walls? And why is the paint on my walls bubbling?
Well, the answer could be humidity, low temperatures, and moisture.
But most likely the surface was not sealed properly before painting.

In most cases, you will find air bubbles forming over previously spackled and patched areas.
Porous surfaces will create air pockets between the surface and paint after wet paint starts to dry and gas out.

I’ve botched, fixed, botched again (time 12) my ceiling. I wish I saw your video before. You litteraly saved me days and days again of fixing my ceiling over and over again!

This happened to me last week, I saw the bubbles and couldn't be bothered to try fix them until the next day. Came back the next day and they were gone. Sometimes it works out being lazy, lol

I recently encountered this problem. I was on a job and did my normal prep. Cleaned walls, primed, first coat, light sand, dusted and the top coat and was surprised to see bubbles forming. Dry times were respected and the room wasn't too humid. I'm perplexed. Told the client to turn up the heat because I remember seeing your video, so we'll see what happens tomorrow. Thanks for the advice.

Hi. I was proud of my diy paint job. One bubble about 2 inches above a light fixture. I'm just seeing it for the first times. Approx 6 weeks post painting. It's just that one spot and no patching was done in that area. I have to decide if I should repair it or wait and 👀 see if it will pop or spread. Hmm.... Thank you for the info you shared.😄

This happened to me when I painted my home. On every wall. Instead of fixing and repainting I ordered two packs of 500 glow in the dark stars. It’s really cool when I turn out the lights.

Thanks! I just has this happen when I repainted my ceiling. No previous repairs for the past 29 years, so I don't know what happened.

I have the same issur after painting my ceiling....i went back on a few areas when i was doing the second coat and now there are a few tiny bubbles that pop up only when i shower. They go away after hour or so after the shower but will comr back with each shower due to the humidity . I have been using a heavy duty fan pointing up to help dry. Should I apply a hot hair dryer to the bubbles? Or just wait 20-30 days until the paint is fully cured? Great video, thanks for posting!!

So basically apply heat and that works, so heat gun?

What about porch painting and temp is like 95 degrees! Is temperature a cause?

This just happened to me two nights ago from over wetting and overworking ceiling paint🤦🏻‍♂️
These high solids low-no voc paints are not that forgiving. Of course I scraped off a big area, skimmed it, primed it, etc.
This room has been a nightmare from the beginning and I just keep going round and round with it, a couple times I felt like lighting a match and walking away lol
I need to sometimes learn to say f*** it and leave it alone!
Great content btw!👍🏻

Hi, what does it mean when new paint peels off like wallpaper literally? My paint bubbled like crazy and no matter what I did it kept bubbling so eventually I tried to peel it and start again but to my surprise rather than just my new paint peeling off multiple layers of paint over the years all peeled off at once (just like wallpaper) back to the original magnolia builders paint! The walls aren't damaged after doing this in fact they look very clean! What could be the problem? Thanks

It's not always an issue that can be fixed by turning up the heat. In fact this solution is probably just kicking the can down the road. If the ceilings were popcorn ceilings and you don't do a real good job cleaning the remaining glue off after you scrape them, you can get problems like this. If you were to do any work that requires paint plastic over these areas, the paint will probably come off with the tape or just over time.

The best solution is and always will be to scrape it, clean the area and then seal and patch it while you have everything taped off and the furniture out of the room.

I got just the opposite. It's bubbling where no patches were. on every wall! Is there any other fixes that you know of? They won't go away !

Great video! Thank you for the tips. Unfortunately, I have a problem spot around the wall switch. I have tried USG Plus 3 topcoat, Killz 1, Killz 2, and Zinsser 123 Plus and they all bubble up in the same pattern & location. The bubbles do subside a bit after time, but they are still obvious. There is no moisture/plumbing in that wall, and it doesn't bubble anywhere else. The problem spot doesn't appear to have any major repair work either. I'll try durabond next. I'd be grateful for any suggestions.
