Got one of these beauties a few years ago and it is a hoot to shoot. Thanks for the vid celebrating this underrated gem of a 40mm!

Thank you for sharing!
Great video and great project.
Despite owning many Leica lenses, this little diamond is glued to my M11.
One body, one lens, one year project.
The perfect combo for me,
Light, tiny, sharp and with a beautiful rendering.
Sometimes, less is much much more!!

I have this little summicron and it is practically glued to my M6 - I am very happy with it

Love this! A lens with not only some interesting character, but also a fun backstory. I'm not a fan of the bokeh for most shots, but it certainly has a palce. And 40mm is massively underrated as a focal length.
This is exactly the sort of lens that someone like James Popsys might enjoy.

Nice to see you with the 40, love the 40 field of view on my ZF, might have to try this on the Leica too..

It's not a rebranded Minolta lens. It's a Leica lens manufactured in Wetzlar Germany by Lietz. Lietz licensed the design out to Minolta, their partner in the CL project to manufacturer their own versions which are different to sell with the Minolta CLE.

Great vid as always! 3:42 Btw- the aperture dot indicator should be straight up- look up “40 f2 summicron teardown” and later in the video when reassembling the lens he shows how to realign it!

Hi great video and a great lens! I have one myself and appreciate the small form factor in comparison to my 35 mm Cron. I think your copy need a bit of love, my appature ring feels very close to my 35 cron from around 2009. Also the indication point should sit dead center

Great in depth video! I own a Leica CL with this lens and I think it’s just a superb combo.

Nicely done sharing your experience with this small little lens :)
I wouldn't pick this due to its bokeh - for me personally definitly too busy, but it sure has character :)

Less is more indeed ! I personally use whether the tiny Elmarit 28 or a Lux 50 for all my pictures. Never tried this 40mm for two reasons. Firstly, the lake of frame : the frame is approximate on a M anyway, but no need to add on other difficulty ! And secondly because of its optical qualities, far away from Leica standards. But I can understand this choice who's still a good compromise for travel photographie.

I have the Minolta 40mm version. I find it hard to frame without the frame lines, but the photos I have gotten are great.

I frequently use my 40 mm on my M8 with sharp, colorful results. Great little lens.
