Just what I needed. The visual with the alignment sticks works great on the range. Thanks!

All great demonstrations Giles on "how not to" lengthen one's backswing! I, do, however, like your suggestion of more hip rotation (which I don't do). Heretofore, I have been using more upper body rotation and it does limit my width and distances. In using the hips more, I like your suggestion of a "passive" right leg when making the rotation. Excellent suggestions Giles. I certainly will be paying more attention to this hip move.

I get the most torque and best result feeling as if my lower body and knees face forward and slightly resist the turn of my shoulders.. The hips and knees are pulled into position by the shoulders, chest and wrists to create a tight rotational coil. It seems like much of the golf swing is created by feelings that produce the best result for a golfer.

Been playing for 4 months basically every day since I started. Been using my hips a lot more the past month and am getting super sore in my trail hip. Is this normal for a beginner who wasn’t used to hip rotation prior to beginning golf? Im worried that I’m over rotating in my hips and want to avoid injuring myself and not being able to play.

I was told not to straighten my trail leg, and keep my knee bent in the backswing, but I get way more hip turn when I straighten my trail leg?

Yes, this is exactly it. No hip turn, no in to out. Try this with a tee in your mouth that points at the ball and means you for sure get your left shoulder under the tee (aka JD with his ciggy in his mouth!) Cheers!

You know what your talking about for sure, but your turning your left leg with your hips. Also get rid of that pic on the back wall
