RNC fact check, day one

The first night of the 2024 Republican National Convention featured many misleading GOP talking points. Here are a few that our colleague, Glenn Kessler, debunked.

This is the problem with misinformation and disinformation. A lie is so easy to make but fact check takes much longer. Until the truth is revealed, the lie has already taken its effect on the targeted audience.

Whats sad is you could quote this and show them facts and they'll deny it... and once they realize youre on to something tell you "we'll just agree to disagree."

As a young American myself, I can verify that I was NOT “richer” during the 4 years of Trump…hell I was part of that 74% living paycheck to paycheck as an educator! Past 4 years with Biden? I actually have money in the bank!!

I did a lot of speech competitions in high school, and the one thing they all had in common is that we had to submit a bibliography citing sources for every single factual claim that we made. Why do we not hold politicians to AT LEAST that standard? Seriously, in a prepared speech why are they not required to publish it in writing with cited sources? If they want to speak off the cuff, those parts should be clearly indicated as impromptu comments, with fact checking required before publication. The burden of evidence should fall on the person making the claim, not the person refuting it.
