I was considering buying the OCD. But after this video, I'm staying with my DS1 that I've had since the late 80's. It's never let me down.

Just got my OCD last week and today I got the DS-1. Not as a replacement but as a compliment when I want more distortion. I got my bluesy sound with the OCD with not too much distortion. Then when I want it more for heavier leads I click on the DS-1 and get what I'm looking for without having to turn the knobs all the time.

Because when I think distortion...I think Hootie and the Blowfish

I just wrote this as a reply to someone's comment here, but I figured I'd post to the main comments section. I own both the OCD v1.7 and the DS-1. I love both pedals but I can assure you they are VERY different animals. Again I love them both, but the OCD is my favorite pedal by a landslide. You'll notice in this video that he plays with the high pass/low pass switch flipped to low pass, which takes out a ton of the low end of the OCD, even then, and even through the youtube compression you can hear how much more treble is happening in the DS-1. (He also has the tone turned up on the DS-1, most I've talked to prefer the tone knob down lower on the DS-1) But if you flip the OCD to HP and keep the low end, you'll find a huge rich warm sound that the DS-1 can't touch. Also the DS-1 really only shines when run into an amp at the edge of breakup or some sort of transparent overdrive like a klon-type pedal to give it that breakup/boost. I run my DS-1 into a gold archer and love it, but even then it still doesn't quite sound as full and rich as the OCD. My only point here is that if you think the DS-1 is the same as the OCD... it's def not. The DS-1 is a great classic pedal. I love it. But get an OCD and enjoy! You can even run the DS-1 at high gain into the OCD at a low gain setting and it'll make the DS-1 sound even more awesome. The OCD is a relatively cheap pedal for it's quality and as an owner of both pedals and a fan of distortion I highly recommend giving the OCD a shot. You won't be disappointed and can easily run them together. (Grab the OCD v1.7 if you can.)

I definitely think the OCD sounds less like a hornet in a Mountain Dew can.

The DS1 strikes me as more of a hot rodded Marshall or JCM900, the OCD definitely has a plexi/JCM800 vibe

that part with PC Principal while he's playing Hold My Hand By Hootie And The Blowfish makes so much sense now after seeing the South Park episode it's a reference too

I’ve never had a reason to look at the OCD. I do have two DS-1s that cost less than $40 for the pair (used) and they work great for me.

If you have reverb on your amp, all you need is a ds1 and you can do classic rock songs all day

That ds-1 hangs really well...I gotta break mine out and play with it a bit more!! :)

Talking to you is like ‘hold my haaaand!!!’ - Hootie and the Anthrax

Ones a distortion, and the other is a high gain overdrive. Two completely different beasts.

Is it most of us have that have both? This is a high quality demo. It’s a good representation of both pedals in my opinion. I don’t use the DS-1 very often, but if I’m search for a particular 90’s crunch, the DS-1 delivers.

It’s slightly hilarious to me that a DS-1 for $40 CAD used can hold its own beside the twice as expensive OCD. It’s almost that pedal that you write off because it’s a boss that been around forever, we forget that it’s been around forever because it’s good while staying cheap.

They are both nice sounding. The OCD seems less colored, DS-1 seems to color it a bit on the low mids. The amount of dirt seems to be about the same. I preferred the OCD, but liked the DS-1 as well. If you wanted a biting sound, I would choose the OCD. If you wanted a more soulful tone, I would choose the DS-1
