Transmission 6R80 and 10R80 Filling Process:

• You will need to keep a drain pan under the fill port to catch any fluid that leaks out.
• Now with the engine off, fill the transmission until its full.
• Mine took just under 6 quarts.
• Then, you need to start your engine and let it run until the transmission gauge shows the fluid is warm.
• While it’s warming up, go ahead and shift the transmission through the gears, while keeping your foot firmly pressed on the brake pedal.
• Once it’s warm, go ahead and add more fluid.
• Most people have been able to add another quart of fluid, some have been able to add a little bit more.
• Once your transmission is filled, you need to pull the clear tube straight up.
• While the engine in running, go ahead and check the level on the dipstick.
• It should be between the “A” and “B” hash marks.
• Then, you need to tighten the fill plug before shutting the engine off.
• Do not overtighten this plug.
• Since your transmission is hot, it could weld itself to the pan once it cools down.
• I recommend you barely tighten it down…let it cool off…and then tighten it a little bit more if needed.

What screen/head unit is in that truck? Great video, only one I've seen so far actually doing it like an average person, on their back

Thanks for the little tips and tricks. Did mine this past weekend and happy with the outcome. The use of aluminum foil was Awesome! How has your truck been since making this video a couple years ago? Have you changed the fluid again since this transmission change? Some sites say to do another fluid change a couple thousand miles after the first one to get rid of the old transmission fluid.

Ok. Sooo new question. Why not just install a pan with a drain plug. Then just drain and fill the pan, changing the filter every x amount of miles.

Like just remove the fluid in the pan and replace without the risk of burning? Why go through the whole thing? If you're changing 5 or 6 quarts out of the pain every 50k? Which makes it simple and easy, which means i would go it more often cause i get bored and want to tinker?

How is that aftermarket pan with the fill plug holding up? I’m thinking I’ll get the same one but always a little cautious when it’s aftermarket.
