One great shout for new simracers is GTR2. Even thought it was released in 2006, it still has great modding support. From old BPR GT1's to modern conversion of ACC's GT3 and GT4 classes. But best feature that I didn't found in any other sim titles is driving shool. Only big downside is that there is not many leagues and multiplayer racing in GTR2 is basically dead. But if you want great singleplayer experience then this is sim for you.

I like Gran Turismo because I grew up with it. I got Assetto Corsa and it was fun to play with a steering wheel. Project Cars 2 was fun too, but I think if you want to start your Simracing career, give Gran Turismo or Assetto Corsa a try

I know this lists focusses on modern games but I highly recommend Burnout 3 Takedown for PS2 or Xbox Classic. IMO the best arcade racing game ever in terms of fun. And it doesn't look too bad either.

Where's ACC? I know it's maybe not the most beginner friendly and varied title on the list but if you're going to talk about assetto corsa, you ought to at least mention ACC.

I've had a wheel for awhile and I've been having fun with AC. So I decided to get a cheap frame to get somewhat of a rig set up and its been nice. My friend also got me to buy project cars 2 saying it was a great place to start and we've been having a lot of fun with that. I also love forsa excited to see if they announce the next one this year at E3. I play on PC mostly. I have a playstation 5 and I remember playing the first gran turismo on the PS1. I ordered Gran turismo sport and cannot wait to play that. I'll probably end up getting the new grand turismo when that comes out. I believe that one will be in 2022.

Forza horizon 4 is really user friendly, Grid Legends also. Project cars 2 is for hardcore sim racers.

well if you do go into racing and into mostly f1 games, dont start with the newest game, go to the 2017 or 2016 game, get to grips and slowly work up to the newest one

It really depends on what you want from the game.

Hop on, occasionally, to play around, while enjoying good graphics? Forza Horizon 4/5 are the gold standard.

Want to take it a bit more serious, higher focus on realism and actual "racing"? Project CARS II and Forza Motorsport 7 deliver.

However, if you want to dip your feet into the waters of the "big boy's pool" while LEARNING a lot about racing and driving all KINDS of care makes and classes, NOTHING beats the original assetto corsa. At least, until Automobilista 2 gets released. AC offers tons of content, great adjustability of difficulty settings according to your own performance level, while being low price and playable on older systems. Personally, I would add, that to really get better at it, you DO need a force feedback driving wheel and pedals. To much information is transmitted through the FFB, that will help you improve, but will send you spinning on a controller, without ever realising, how or why.

Dirt rally 2.0 is definitely not for beginners. Just bought it today and I have never been so irritated by a racing game in my life. Either you can play a mode in a track with 1000hp or you can play a race in the mountains on the side of cliffs with 90hp. Neither of them are even playable for me. Just aren’t fun to me. I like to see the turn coming up and I like to not be seeing that while going 100mph with crappy breaks.

Dont buy Forza games if you're planning to play it with a wheel. All forza games are terrible with wheels.
