The Ultimate Bang-for-Buck Racing Sim! My Gran Turismo 7 Setup

If there's one thing you should know about sim racing, it's that it's not a cheap hobby. After factoring in the cost of a wheel, pedals, and a cockpit, it can end up costing thousands of pounds just to get started - and that doesn't even include all the hardware required to actually run the game itself.

In this video, I’ll walk you through my sim racing setup, which I’ve carefully designed to enhance every aspect of my virtual driving experience, while staying within a sensible budget. If you wanted to check these products out for yourself, I’ve left links to everything in the description below.

I'm glad I came across your video. I'm a retired Army veteran who lost my left leg in a training accident right after Desert Storm and my right leg is paralyzed. I love racing but doing it with a joystick sucks. I need something cheap that I can hook up my hand controls from my car (Gas & brake with left hand, steer with my right) and this setup looks perfect. Cheers!

Suffer from VR motion sickness too, and recently got a tip that helped massively. Once you start feeling sick, it's too late, the key is to stop before you start feeling sick. Do 5, 10, 15 minute stints, whatever it is you can manage without feeling sick, and then stop. This supposedly allows your brain to experience VR without becoming sick, and allows you to adapt.
Seems to be working for me, starting to be able to go a lot longer in VR without feeling sick.

You can adjust the amount of force from the wheel in controller settings in Gran turismo.
It is only set at 50% by default so the g29 can give a surprising amount more force than before.
I was considering changing my wheel too before I found my wheel was delivering half the force it could.

For PSVR2, I got bad motion sickness the first time I used it. So the next time that I tried it out I made sure to take my time during the setup process and also ensure that I had it properly on my head. There’s a sweet spot where everything is in focus, finding this spot resolved my issue. The blurred vision was causing my motion sickness. Now I use it daily with no issues and how immersive it is is truly insane.

1. I appreciate your minimalist taste for your interior decorating.

2. I have an Meta Quest 2 and I overcame my motion sickness by playing Rec Room. I took it slow with the movements and positioned my body to maintain balance and anticipate “movement” without my actual body moving. Sort of like a forward lunge position. It worked like a charm. No VR motion sickness at all anymore.

I bought an Audi leather seat at the junkyard and built up a base for it, the wheel and pedals. As an added bonus the seat was fully adjustable so was completely powered for multiple drivers. I think the seat cost a hundred bucks and the base another 50. Some other miscellaneous costs (like a 12v supply for the seat and casters for the chair) and I might have been in for $225 (plus the wheel which was more than that). Was a pretty awesome setup though compared to commercial chairs.

I like how clean you setup looks. As far as VR motion sickness goes I used to get bad motion sickness after a half hour with older VR systems I went to my friends house to try his PSVR2 out and I felt perfectly fine for the twoish hours I played didn't feel queezy once

Great video, for the motion sickness try this out, place a fan in front of you in a way that your face receives a good amount of "wind" makes a world of difference. I guess it kinds of bridge a little of the gap of visual movement and body perception of movement.

This was one of the best, most honest, naturally delivered, and compelling "talking head" tech videos I've seen in a long time. Keep up the good work!

I use Fanatec DD Pro 8mm, tried almost every other wheel on the market and this one gives you the best bang for a buck, and has the best ecosystem and support.

You should give VR another go. The immersion of actually sitting in the car is unreal. I definitely understand motion sickness. My first time with VR in a racing sim ended when I crashed full-on into a barrier. The experience was so real, I felt nauseous and dizzy for a day or two. The trick was to come back to it in short doses, eventually your brain adapts. I now enjoy VR as the ultimate sim racing experience. 🤓

I had MAJOR motion sickness when I first started VR. You just have to keep at it and build your tolerance, now it doesn't matter what I play. No sickness at all.

I just finished my set up but im a 33 year old single woman... so I only like to free roam while I get real drunk and sing along to music.. I don't think that was what it was intended for but it's a good time. Lol

Rocked into the video thinking I’d missed a major channel, but it’s 56k subs.

SUPER pro content. Loved the tone, video work, style, dialogue, pace…. Perfection mate.

I rarely get instantly impressed. Well done. Thank you 👍🏼

I just bought PSVR2 for GT7 and it is worth every penny. I’m also prone to motion sickness and I’ve never felt queasy while playing. The only time I’ve felt slightly uncomfortable is during a spin out or if I push too hard into the barrier

Use a fan when rocking VR pointed at you. Will help with any bad feelings
