Weighted blankets or weighted stuffed animals is also an amazing thing to offer! ❤

As a former autistic child, yes these are all good ideas!! Honestly I struggle so much with picking food options that I think a choice board would be useful for me NOW!

Yes! The “can you tell me with your words” example made me cringe because I couldn’t talk until I was almost 5, but people always demanded something verbal. Then I would get in trouble if I couldn’t

Oh my God, I’m neurodivergent and binders are my love language! 😊 Please don’t make me have to listen to something and remember it. Especially when I’m stressed out. Trust me, it’s not for lack of trying or lack of respect. If it were within my power to make you register as anything other than Charlie Brown’s teacher in that moment, I PROMISE you I would! 😂

What an amazing person you are, Laura. Not only helping these children, but educating the masses so we too can help the children. ❤️🙏

A binder full of information that you need to know about the environment and the people? Need it! I would have one for everywhere if it was normal to have written records of information about other people

Little tip that makes a HUGE difference with our son, lift one of my hands with one option, the other hand with another option, and he points to who can he wants. Sometime I can use his hands and he lifts the hand for his choice ❤

What about also just labeling the doors? I wonder if that would also help with the fosters who are unuse to being able to just go into rooms or whatever, like if you just always had a sign on the bathroom that said "BATHROOM. If the door is open, feel free to come in!" or something.

Honestly. This is how we do it for every child. Even if they are neurotically being in a strangers house, being taken forcefully from your parents, maybe having seen them get arrested. The last thing I want is a kid stressing out over what to call me. Names are work on the fridge. Signs are on doors and they know how to call is from the baby monitor (in case they are too scared to knock on or bedroom door.

As an autistic adult, I really wish I had a choice board and someone that followed me to what I need

Are Sam and Trevor names you use for biological children or examples of other foster children?

Get that child in horse riding therapy. My daughter was non verbal until she was 5. We got her into horse riding therapy and she was speaking in broken sentences in the 1st 2 weeks. The same parts of the brain used for balance will also make connections for speech.
