It's worth going back to the period before Starmer was made head of the CPS, when he was working as a lawyer for the Northern Ireland Police Service.

Northern Ireland was stuffed full of Special Branch and MI5/6. It was also a place where Sue Gray, Starmer's right-hand person today, went and lived on the borderlands with Southern Ireland, in all probability undercover for one of the secret services.

You don't get the top CPS kind of job without having proved one's loyalty.
