On this channel we have talked about Hydrogen fueled internal combustion engine a whole lot. This is a technology I really believe in. You see if we could efficiently produce and safely store hydrogen then converting existing ICE cars into hydrogen fueled vehicle can give us a way to make the 1.2 Billion ICE powered vehicles on our planet more green. I mean most of us don’t have the money to buy a new car so if we could convert our old car it would be ideal.

So is it possible to convert any ICE to run on Hydrogen?
Well lets get into it.

I found that if you convert the car to run on CNG first then all you have to do is switch the fuel but you must then recalibrate the computer to match the different fuel you are now using. With hydrogen many people don't know this but you can slow down it's burn rate by regulating the exhaust gases sent into the mixture by the EGR system. What this does is basically creates a traffic jam by putting a bunch of stuff in the combustion chamber that doesn't support the burning process thus slowing down the time it takes for the hydrogen to find and combine with the oxygen. Then there is yet another trick in how to increase the energy content of the reaction and that is by ionizing the hydrogen prior to injecting it into the combustion chamber so that it enters the combustion chamber as a monatomic hydrogen gas atom instead of a hydrogen molecule.
There are many other things I know about using hydrogen as I have been studying this for years. This is why I say with confidence hydrogen is the fuel of the future.

Internal combustion engines are designed to run on vaporized liquids like gasoline or diesel fuel. They are not designed to run on a gaseous fuel like hydrogen, but by mixing hydrogen with a small quantity of liquid water we can make it behave like a vaporized liquid. Gasoline is 13% hydrogen and 87% carbon, it goes into the cylinders as a vaporized liquid. If we remove the carbon, we are left with gaseous hydrogen. Gaseous hydrogen has some unique characteristics that make it almost impossible to use as a fuel in an internal combustion engine, but by mixing the right amount of hydrogen with the right amount of water at the right time, hydrogen behaves like a vaporized liquid and can be substituted for gasoline or diesel fuel in any internal combustion engine.

Everybody can’t have EV because the system won’t be able to support all the charge. This is a great option for everyone and we should invest more into this technology as a whole.

You can convert existing engines to run on Hydrogen even if they don’t have direct injection from the factory, but you need to modify the engine by putting on a head that allows for direct injection, so the head would have to be an aftermarket one specially designed for direct injection

Why not use carburetor’s instead of fuel injectors for Hydrogen?

Does hydrogen lubricate the cylinder walls? If not you’ll have to lubricate it with oil after every dedination of fuel.

Nice video. btw I think direct injection was first developed by Mercedes about 90 years ago....but it didn't catch on due to cost.

Hi Chris, nice video, very concise and exact with the information. As I know, you can have a gasoline engine and modify it to use with LGP or just LPG too. My doubt is about the mechanical requirement for maintaining the same power before the change. Do you have info about it?

I have tried to get into converting cars trucks and any thing that runs on diesel or petrol .But always seem to run into a brick wall ! Trying to get all the parts I need top build /convert these vehicles, Im in a unique postion as I have acess to unlimited Hydrogen, and 700bar Kevlar Carbon Fiber tanks to hold it in .Yes I have, through my friend the possibilty to use the hydogen, which at his company is a byproduct and only used for industrial purposes, not mobility . I have been given lots of advice but its been mostly old school bullshit ! Anybody clever out there that could put me on the right path ? I live in hope !

LPG works fine and is a byproduct.
Low pressure and safer in my opinion.
