Convert any Hatchback Car to a Practical Micro Camper in Less than 10 Minutes without Making a Mess

This video shows you how to convert a hatchback car to a practical micro camper without major modifications or making a mess. The entire process should take less than 10 minutes. This is not meant to be a conversion for living in the car permanently, but a smart solution for trips than can last a couple of days. And remember, we're talking about solo car camping. The car is always ready for normal daily usage without anyone noticing it's a micro camper, even when it's fully loaded and ready to go FARAWAY!

I'm using a Ford Fiesta. Surprisingly it provides plenty of space. There are some specific features that become handy time to time. However, I'm sure this can be applied to many other hatchback cars. Each car comes with unique features that may become useful while camping.

I used this video as a guide to be able to travel across Europe and do some regular/stealth camping with my girlfriend on my 2019 Peugeot 208.

I cut some MDF board to fit the exact dimensions of the boot of my car and be able to fold it back up quickly in case we needed to leave in a hurry, on top of using a cheap inflatable mattress with a foot pump and I still had leftover space for a butane gas cooker and a carry-on case for clothing.

We traveled several weeks through many places across Spain and France, up and down the coast of the Atlantic and Mediterranean, visiting friends and Family with nothing but my car and what we could pack in it and we did not spend a single cent on accommodation. When we couldn't spend the night at some of our friend's or families' place we just parked in a secluded spot where we wouldn't be disturbed and the experience was not bad at all. We also went to some camping grounds with our friends and while they set up their tents we just secured some tarp to the open boot of the car as to shield us from rain or wind and camped comfortably throughout the weekend.

Of course, it's no substitute for a Hotel or a camper-van but it will do if all you have is a subcompact car and a bit of ingenuity. My advise for people wanting to travel like this is to SAVE MONEY IN ADVANCE. You never know when need might arise that you need money for the hospital, food, clothing, supplies, etc. Life brings unexpected things around and you need to be prepared. We're not rich and had to put aside money for a year just to do this, so keep that in mind.

In any case, this amazing video showed me the possibilities of being creative with space and to use what was available to me so that no matter what I could always do things if I put a little thought into it and some elbow grease.

Greetings from Spain and cheers for this incredible video ;)

Ahhh this gives all the cozy solo camp vibes. I loved like this for a year when I was homeless and to be fair. I was more happier than in a house 😅

This is the best hatchback conversion I have seen so far....and I've seen alot! It's simple and easy to setup and breakdown without all the unnecessary attachments etc. Love it!

I am getting a prius C/toyota aqua and looking forward to trying this setup.

Amazing video. Simple I like the way you fixed the uneven part of the benches without buying plywood and putting a platform. Good job !

Did this with my old Plymouth Zephyr back in the day. Station wagon so a LOT more stretch out space, worked well for two. No specialized gear required, just storage tubs and an air mattress. Weather-proof camping.

A written guide on how to do this would be amazing, as well as a list of products used!

Best subcompact suv for car camping is the honda hrv (except 2023 model) with magic seats. I have 2016 honda hrv lx fwd. The seats fold almost completely flat. I use 3" foam to make the bed completely flat and comfortable to sleep on. For storage, I've added a Thule cargo carrier on the roof of the hrv with Thule roof rack. My wife and I have been car camping for over 10 years and it has saved us a significant amount of money. I really like your video and how practical your setup is. Keep up the good work.

Like your set up. I initially started car camping in a Cheverlot Spark by accident as tent got flooded out. From then never looked back when camping on my own, my main solo choice is a car camp. Simple sets are the best. Now I have a bigger car, trying to find a Simple set up that works.

I did this with nothing but a sleeping bag one night. Had 2 16-hr shifts in a row, didn't want to drive home and back between them, so I pulled into the nearby woods and slept in my hatchback.

I am currently purchasing everything I need to sleep in my 2020 RAV4 these newer models are a lot larger compared to the older one. I’m very convinced that I can sleep in it even though I’m about 6 foot one.

Absolutely fantastic! Thank you for sharing. I am trying to convert my Daihatsu Terios into a camper for outings and camping in the rain. The plastic containers used for leveling and storage at the same time..great idea!!!

This is great, a lot of thought went into it. Would never have realised you could do this in a Fiesta

You are an absolute perfectionist. And extremely organised. Yes you are. I have watched so many videos on different types of living. Some people are so disorganised. And they have far too much stuff. I am paying $105.00 for each night in a cabin. Its freezing here. They won't let you camp. Oh well. Great way too save money😊🌹🇭🇲💃
