Were Dumbledore and Voldemort equally strong? In the fifth installment of the Harry Potter series, there was a historic moment—the first and only duel between Voldemort and Dumbledore. If you only know this duel from the movies, you might think that the two wizards were evenly matched in strength. But this is where the books become crucial.

It becomes evident that Voldemort never stood even the remotest chance against Dumbledore. Unlike in the film, Dumbledore was multitasking during this duel. He managed to keep Harry safe, capture Bellatrix, and simultaneously battle Voldemort. However, this duel was quite different.

You could almost say that Dumbledore was mocking Voldemort. Throughout the entire duel, Dumbledore strolled calmly through the room, lecturing Voldemort about his weaknesses, while barely breaking a sweat deflecting curses. The following conversation is key:

Voldemort: „There is nothing worse than death, Dumbledore.“

Dumbledore: „That is where you are wrong. Your inability to understand that there are things much worse than death has always been your greatest weakness.“

Dumbledore’s goal wasn’t to defeat Voldemort outright. He aimed to delay him until the truth emerged, forcing the Ministry to acknowledge Voldemort’s return.

Dumbledore was repeatedly started to be the most powerful wizard in the world, arguably of all time, it was excellent to read how this was showcased in the books, the movies made them even, book Dumbledore walked it

I'm not sure why people say Dumbledore was leaps and bounds ahead of Voldemort in this duel. Yes, I am referring to the books. Voldemort disappears in the water attack, casts a fiery snake spell that successfully strikes Dumbledore, casts AK four times, the final one would have struck and killed Dumbledore had Faux not been there to block/eat it, because Voldemort spawned behind Dumbledore when that AK was cast. Dumbledore eventually became concerned over Harry's safety because Dumbledore underestimated Voldemort's skill. As for capturing Bellatrix and protecting Harry, Dumbledore casted a spell for the stone knights to handle them. It wasn't like Dumbledore alone was doing all the multitasking once the knights were spawned.

It's hard to call. First Voldemort was younger than Dumbledore, who was already too old for it. But then again, Dumbledore was using a legendary OP wand that supposedly could NOT lose.

That’s not true… if you actually read the books Voldemort almost kills dumbledore at the end and he was only saved by luck and timing also. According to the actual author of the book. Voldemort stomps
