For size people also forget that 2/3rds of a giant squid’s length is made of the feeding tentacle

About the diet of great white sharks, I remembered there was a study on the species that suggested that the great white sharks in South Africa ate other smaller species of sharks for about half the year.

Only 3000 white sharks 🦈? Sounds seriously endangered?

I would say this is well within the realm of reason. It probably doesn't happen that often (as far as we know), but white sharks are big enough and smart enough to hunt them. Loving the shark videos pal!

Some of it could happen in response to cases when Orcas have attacked and killed White Sharks. When those attacks have occurred, the White Sharks have tended to leave the area for a period of time and that could force them to change their food sources while between their typical feeding grounds.

I don't know much about sharks, but I do know that, like any predator, they are curious and opportunistic. So, why wouldn't they go after giant squids if the opportunity arose? Why wouldn't they go deeper, much deeper, just to see what's cookin' down there?

Just to be pedantic, the jumbo squid, Dosidicus gigas, is the Humboldt squid, named for the Humboldt current in which it generally resides. Nothing humble about it - it will mess you up, and it schools, at the surface, in groups of over a thousand.

I’m confident that GW sharks have and do!

I have seen an Octopus predate on many sharks its size in an aquarium, so I don't think Giant Squids are that easy of a prey for Great Whites.

If the giant squid gets its tentacles on the Great White first, there may be no shaking it off until it's sure the Great White will retreat or be killed.

That's just my opinion, though.

Animals like Cuvier's beaked whale are known to hunt giant squid as well despite being around same size and even non-deep diving species like orca will get a hold of them to every once in a while too so I’ll be surprised is this didn’t happen every once in awhile

I don't think a white shark would hunt a giant squid. The reason: they fight back. White sharks try to avoid getting injured as best they can and a giant squid would certainly put up quite a fight

I have always felt like we focus way too much on white sharks when it comes to their feeding on things like seals, mostly because that's what we see. There's some elements of shark science in general that I just feel people are very myopic about

Great white are terrifying in the dark and for a giant squid to fight back? It's just getting chopped up. Now I wonder what was jaws diet?
