Apple Opens First Stores in India

Apple CEO Tim Cook officially opened Apple’s first company-owned store in India, betting the iPhone maker’s retail outlets will help accelerate sales growth. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman tells Ed Ludlow how it showcases the company's dedication to the area.

There are ZERO carrier partner deals for Apple with either Jio, Airtel or Vodafone to sell iPhones in india. Only third party authorised, unauthorised local dealers and Apple themselves (websites and the new stores) are the three ways to sell iPhones in India. Mark’s comment on how the Carriers sell iPhones in India show how he doesn’t have any real world idea on the Apple market in India, he doesn’t know that GREATLY different system they have employed here with a distributed ownership model, so they don’t take risk. They have partnered with Redington for distribution, much like Dell and Lenovo in India. And up till last week, had zero retail stores. How you can go to an apple store to get a replacement, go to a genius bar, get applecare is very different here in India. There are third parties that have made it a business (Maple, Imagine, Reliance, Croma) that take on repair. Also we have third party applecare services for 1 year or even 6 months by Servify. It shows how Mark doesn’t know this market because INDIA HAS NEVER SOLD A PHONE VIA A CARRIER, we simply don’t employ contracts like the USA, all phones are unlocked. And all phones have no difference, regardless from where you bought it

I'm not a technology analyst, but India is a better destination for Apple than China due to the regulation and complicated laws in China that ban certain apps. Diversifying manufacturing is a good idea for a company when, China government can crack down on a company at any moment which is quite scary. In Japan that doesn't happen, because we are close free market. China not so much.
