UPDATE: Even after the announcement of the PSVR 2 on February 23, 2021, I my opinion is that a PSVR 1 is still worth it, because the PSVR 2 will not appear until 2022 at the earliest.

In this video I tell you my opinion about: is the psvr still worth it in 2021.

Honest and wise video as always, thanks Thomas! You forgot to say that PSVR has aspherical smooth lenses that the best today headsets can only dream of! It came with two 120 Hz refresh rate OLED RGB stripe panels granting very low SDE in 2016! Not pentile, RGB! Incredible for the time and still doing a fine work! Exclusive games give honor to VR: Hitman 3, RE7, Here They Lie, Bound, Iron Man, Blood & Truth, Dreams, Wipeout, etc. etc. Not the gimmicky toys of standalone Quest 2! Pfui! VR headsets get old in 2-3 years, PSVR is 5 y.o. and I can say that all in all it has aged very well. Don't forget that we're talking of the most widespread headset so far. Kudos to Sony! It's more suited for seated games, you can play even standing, but you have just 180° tracking volume (half sphere). The main defect that was there from the beginning are the Move Controllers; Sony put great effort in the headset but had the bad idea to recycle the old light-bulb controllers of PS3 era without thumbsticks; as consequence decided to rely on visible light tracking. Headset tracking has just one small defect, it suffers from a bit of drift, Sony forgot to insert a flashing signal from the camera for automatic drift correction. If you own a PS4 or PS5 and you have never played VR, I suggest to buy PSVR on second hand. I believe Sony is planning to release PS5 Pro and PSVR2 in two years; 7 years is the time from the old generation to the actual one; PS4 Pro was released in the end of 2016 almost together with PSVR1.

For No Man's Sky alone it's been worth it for me since the resolution patch. It's wonderful

Great video. I own the Playstation VR and it's still good, just hard to argue with the Oculus Quest and not needing cables. I have the Quest and I love it.

I still like it for games with the gamepad or the Aim controller. No god rays, nice colors and big FOV. Still worth it IMO. Not a fan of the Move controllers however.

I got psvr on launch as pc alternatives were a pain, went to index a year ago but still use psvr when I just want the simplicity of power on and go. The games just work unlike some pc titles such as il2 that is a pain to get seated position correct

Its still the most comfortable headset & has some of the best games in VR.
Even if it only had RE7, Ironman & Firewall it would still be worth it in 2021.

If you own the PS4 or PS5, then I would purchase it for a beginners headset. Its still a great value. The 120hz is smooth as butter, RGB stripe OLED for kick ass colors and it has low SDE. Sure it has low resolution but the low SDE makes it playable. Hell it even measures your IPD, what headset does that today unless it has eye tracking! It still has great aspects and could probably be picked up for cheap on Ebay

Easily worth it. I have XTAL 8K and I still use my PSVR every week since launch. There are great fleshed out games. Yes the tracking isn't the best but for a turnkey solution for little money and good peripherals like AIM it is a no brainier. Hell, Battle zone with friends is still amazing.

It is also a sub pixel display which greatly increases the effective resolution.
The tracking sucks though.
Serious problems with rotation calibration on many titles.
Never had much of a problem with VR sickness using PSVR though.
The other big problem is the platform itself.
It's exclusive so they have you a captive of their platform and frankly their administration of it seems pretty abusive to me..

I wouldn't recommend it for those reasons.

Same with the Facebook headset.
It has better tracking and in some way's they are at least a bit more professional but it's still pretty abusive.
Also, no one ever say's much about this but the Facebook platform, much like Facebook itself is horrendously ugly.
Even the stuff that is supposed to be beautiful is garish or seriously compromised in some other manner and there ain't much that even pretends to beauty on that platform.

Just sold mine after using it with the PS5. I found it to be poorly integrated overall, I had it for a few years with the ps4 pro and purchased it used.
The biggest issue in my opinion is the camera tracking, move controllers and general drift issues.
The helmet itself is very comfortable and works great for racing games or just Theater mode to play any game, first person non VR games are great like this btw.
The resolution varies depending on the game and I didn’t find it horrible compared to an oculus quest, the black levels are always brighter than I’d like though. It is SIGNIFICANTLY more comfortable than a fully decked out Frankenquest.
The move controllers are junk, the AIM controller is okay but needs mods to be good and still suffers from significant drift.
IMO at this point I would only purchase it used and be aware that Sony is very much moving away from the platform hardware wise.

Well, Thx for sharing your vid.
I just ordered an opened box PSVR 2nd gen included 3 controllers for $250 which I think a good deal.
And there are two main reasons why I order now are:
1 - I don't think the new PSVR 2 will work/support on PS4 because most PS4 VR games are backward compatible on PS5 and current PSVR also already supported/compatible on PS5. If it will, it may only support PS4 PRO but I don't think it will support.
2 - If new PSVR 2 supports PS4 PRO, then it will require latest firmware upgrade which I don't want to because I like FW 7.55 which my ps4 pro currently running :-).

the field of view is bigger than Rift S or Reverb G2, also the lenses are way better

Headset itself is actually good. But camera tracking and awful awful controllers is what makes it literally unusable for me
