'I don't care about coronavirus because I'm young and healthy' | Doctor sounds off about COVID-19

I keep seeing the same sentiment over and over again: "I don't care about coronavirus because I'm young and healthy". Wake up people. My opinion as a doctor is that we're at a critical point with COVID-19 where our actions will directly translate into saved lives or lost lives. It's your choice. Flatten the curve. I know this is easier said than done for many people in the work force who may not necessarily be able to stop working for financial reasons. Only you can make that individual risk/benefit decision. All I know is that we're at a turning point and it's going to take everyone to help out.

Imagine if the roles were changed, and these kids are the ones "reported" prone to the sickness, you wont see your parents and grandparents partying. It's just sad.

I see this indifferent attitude all the time regarding most of the serious issues. People don't really take these things seriously until it's starting affecting them personally. They don't understand the gravity of the situation because reports and numbers of cases doesn't seem as tragic and graphic as say a terrorist attack and a few hundred casualties.
I'm a microbiologist and you would be surprised how so many people are ignorant of how microorganisms like viruses and bacteria can spread so easily. This lack of basic understanding of science is also a big factor in people ignoring expert advice and going about their life as if nothings happening.
They don't understand how even a single infected person could lead to a chain of infections and cause a community spread. It's sad that so many people have lost their lives and many more will be lost because people are selfish and won't listen

I’m a 40 yo Italian Doctor. Healthy, sport enthusiast. I had Covid during a “on call” service in my hospital and Now I’m at home with a mild pneumonia. I have to stay in bad quite all the day long. I am lucky, because I know there are colleagues of my age in ICU. The problem it’s not just the Virus, but the immunity response of our body. So the age of the patients is lowering. Especially for Males. Take care everybody. This video is true.

My dad is a physicians assistant and he is working his ass off every single day making sure people are treated. My mom has asthma and is at an age that this disease could kill her. My friend just posted that in Russia, Putin said, "Message: Everyone must stay home for the next 2 weeks or go to jail for 5 years. End of message". Idk if it's true but I think that's the only way people will understand. I'm a millenial but we have babies and elderly at home and I care. I am not selfish!

I’m 14 and have been social distancing since this whole thing started. I am a bit of introvert so it didn’t really impact me much anyways. But it annoys me so much to see people my age in groups up to 8 walking outside together, hanging out, posting themselves on social media at a party. They say “I’m young so it won’t affect me” but are bringing it home to their parents and grandparents. My grandma stays with us and I never want to be responsible for her getting sick or even dying. I guess it’s easy for me to self isolate because I have someone to isolate for and because I am not someone who goes to parties every weekend, but people still need to social distancing and stop being so selfish just because it, “won’t affect them”.

Italy and US/Canada are actually getting it easy. In poorer countries like mine (Brazil) or India, a bigger portion of the population don't have the ability to stay quarantined, cause they already earn so little and if they don't show up at work, the government won't be able to help them make a living or keep themselves alive. Even with "free" healthcare systems on some of those countries, deaths are gonna skyrocket waaay past 1st world countries, but they won't be noticed by larger media. COVID-19 is not the problem, is the world's economic system and our way of life that is killing people.This is not a criticism of the video or its content, just a reminder that after this is passed on the Northern Hemisphere countries, we down here will still be dying and suffering from this for months. Just wanted to get this message thru.

I'm a resident doctor and I can tell you right now at my hospital, there's a previously healthy male in his thirties who's intubated with severe ARDS because of COVID-19. And he's not gonna be the only one. So if you thought you were safe because you're young and healthy, think again.

There's 20 and 30 year olds dying of this disease. Plus, sure you might recover, but what if you give it to someone who is at higher risk than you? Can you live with that?
