I used to like Chery but compared to other Chinese brands they cut a few more corners. Here in South Africa that car is called the tiggo cross, the rear styling is different and it has a DCT instead but everything else is the same. When I checked one out I accidentally opened the door a bit hard and the place where the hinges mount popped out and went back after a few seconds. I imagine that's due to the sheet metal and frame bending slightly but it leaves very little hope for overall build quality. There's also small touches like cables aren't nicely insulated and welding looks like it's mostly spot welds. Don't get me wrong, it's perfectly acceptable, my mom's Suzuki which costs more is way worse in build quality, Suzuki used tiny zip ties to hold cables in place, stickers on the door handles for the red insert, electrical tape for insulation with lots of gaps (this is pretty disgusting imo), severe braking issues which required Suzuki to fix, can't go up a hill at more than 50kmh even with a ran up, very thin sheet metal body, no proper rubber plugs in the sheet metal leading to rusting inside the boot, terrible road noise at 80kmh which requires you to talk loud to hear eachother, an awful AMT transmission, interior pieces already showing signs of wear and tear even with proper care, awful suspension which jolts and moves whenever someone inside the car moves slightly and her engine is showing rust within 45000km and we live 700km away from the ocean, this was their flagship car here 2 years ago (the vitara brezza). This chery is ahead of any Suzuki I've tested, I'd even take it over any corolla cross or similar car but I think they're behind haval. I think this Chery will easily last to 150000km but beyond that is questionable whereas I think haval will make it to 300k without issues. My father got a BAIC BEIJING X55 PREMIUM, I wish they'd go to Australia because that car is so much nicer than a jolion for less money.

Definitely a good car. Just enough ground clearance, decent fuel economy and size. Keep us updated on the reliability.
