4K often isn't necessary for TVs, but makes more sense for monitors. #Shorts

Most people don’t understand the relationship between screen size, resolution and viewing distance.

The problem is that all of the new features and quality are reserved for 4k+ TVs, companies don't invest in 1080p panels anymore. So maybe the 4k resolution isn't needed, but you'll still end up with poorer quality image in other ways.

I can’t absorb this information without a video of a guy cutting up sand in the bottom half of the video

This is also why I game at 1080p or 2k. At 7.5 feet I can't see a difference, but I can definitely hear it and feel it when the fans ramp up for 4k and gpu starts heating up the room.

As someone who had a 1080p TV, and upgraded to a 4k in my livingroom, the difference is obvious. Expecially when your youtube autos to 1080 and then you up it to 4 k, the quality diff is very noticable.

I can definitely tell the difference with a larger 4k then a large 1080p TV.

While this video is technically not wrong. Most streaming platforms allow the quality of the video based on your screen resolution. So you can't play 4k video on a 1080p screen.
So you'll miss out on the higher bitrate 4k video that the streaming platform can provide which has more clarity.

As usual, the obvious point is being missed. The larger the display, the more immersive the experience can be. Viewing distances typically do not change. The larger the display, and the lower the resolution, the more the pixel structure becomes apparent, which in turn make artifacts common in gaming and streaming more noticeable, while the converse reduces those problems. If your typically sit two feet away, or 10 feet away, larger displays at higher resolutions can be a very good thing indeed.

Still rocking my 1080p TV with my PC plugged on it, I'd say I'm 3, 5m away so it's perfectly fine and with a 3060ti I'm happy with 60fps on all games. If I upgrade one day it will be for a huge 4K OLED.

I'm sorry by that's an over generalisation - there may be some people who can't see the difference between 1080p & 4K on a 50 inch TV from around 7ft away, but I & many others CAN tell the difference, so that's NOT TRUE for us! I have seen 50 inch 1080p at the side of a 4K from around that distance, & I can tell the difference & tell you which is which 100% of the time!

Me with my 20/15 vision: Wow, them’s some big pixels.
Also me, perpetually low on sleep: There are words on this document, I know it!!

older 1080p TVs tend to just be really thick and heavy, so i prefer 4k TVs even if resolution isn't all that important

That may be, but when I was buying my TV 4K was pretty much the only option. The only 1080p models were some crappy sub 30 inches ultra economical things.

didn't buy my 65" oled for just 4k I got it for all the other features like hdr has well

That is why I went with a minimum size of 65inches for a 4k TV.
