*Yes, it is not a pro micro, its a pro mini*

This is an elegant solution. It's also possible to slip the mini directly into the programmer board pins (eliminating the cable) and pressuring the mini to make contact while programming.

The advantage with your approach is that you can program the mini even after it's affixed to your project. The pogo pins are expensive though.

another way is to lock arduino between pins and breadboard then tilt male pins 15-30 degree while flashing code

I use a long usb cable (about 1 meter) to connect the programming board to my PC.
I do not solder any programming pins on the arduino pro mini.
I plug the pins of this programming board (FTDI232) directly into the pro mini.
I put a little bit pressure on the inserted board to have a good contact with the pins of arduino.
Much easier and faster (less soldering) and no need to use an additional cable.

Neat :-) I remember programming some pic10f with spring loaded contacts before starting with Arduino.

Nice video. But i'm not sure how it's better than the bended pins, since you have to press it down.

Any risk of bricking the board if your hand slips during program upload?

i've discovered a "neater" and zero cost solution (literaly zero, neighter a cable) you bend the pins on the programmer alternativerly slightly up and down in a zig zag fashion, then pressing the pins flat toghether you slide em in (maybe aiming at 60 degrees before fitting all of em), they both stay all always connected and hold the arduino at the same time, of course it's a bit tricky to do this with an arduino soldered or stuck somewhere, but letting the thing stay on a table or hanging from a PC it's perfect

just poke the prongs from the serial programmer through the promini whilst it is lying flat on a breadboard, just remember the tx and rx are reversed

You can do the exact same thing with the 90 degree pins as well. Kinda common knowledge.

You've basically "discovered" what is already known.
