Sushi Rolls in Japan for LESS Than a DOLLAR!?!

In Japan, you can buy mini sushi rolls at the store for less than a dollar. As delicious as it is, half the fun is opening the package. It’s designed like this to prevent the seaweed from touching the rice and getting soggy. Fun fact, although sushi rolls are pretty famous in the US, I’d say most restaurants in Japan focus on simple raw fish over rice. Which do you prefer? Crazy how in the United States they charge so much for a product that is so cheap to make. People should seriously learn not to give in

Meanwhile in America: average size rolls are $14.

The packaging is brilliant...it's convenient, presents great food because the seaweed doesn't touch the rice and it looks like it can be made at a low cost!

Same, even in thailand in 7 eleven we get this sushi roll same as this but diff filling, its filled shrimp roe and marinated seaweed and same packaging as this. Costs 29 baht which is $0.78.

The packaging is so creative, love it!!

Okay, I’m not gonna lie, I actually prefer American sushi rolls 😅 THEY ARE SO GOOD, especially the baked rolls omg. I do appreciate a good traditional roll every once in a while though!!

It's dependent on the region because some regions don't have access to good raw fish

Nigiri is the best! But rolls can be very good

It’s amazing for the customer and such but the Japanese use insane amounts of plastics, I saw a mango or something (the normal one not the expensive ones) was wrapped in 4 layers of plastic for all of them separately.

I love raw fish over rice brah it's the simplicity of freshness that's great about it

Huge preference for nigiri over rolls. You get more fish, you actually can taste the fish, and it’s more bang for your buck imo.

I prefer plain raw fish as in sashimi lol
But when I make sushi I don't go for all that crap on top.
Rice/fish maybe some avocado or cucumber. Making little gunboats sushi.
Now onigiri are different. I put all kinds of stuff in but smoked kipper are a favorite and of course tuna mayo!
Last time I went for sushi at a place run by real sushi chef from Japan he asked my preference and I told him fresh and no mayo or hot sauce or weird toppings lol.
He made me a sampling of the freshest fishes and octopus and squid. Just a little roll with only cucumber in the rice wrapped in nori! It was heaven. They refilled my miso soup several times and he offered me free saki once we were done.
Was it expensive. Oh yes lol but wonderful. I learned a long time ago if you can afford ask the chef to make you his best.

I very much prefer the simplicity Japan has! I’m not a huge fan of avocado or cucumbers in my rolls and i’m not a huge fan of lobster and prefer more of salmon. It’s also pretty hard to find a sushi roll in us that doesn’t have the rice and seaweed inverted.

We have it here in Malaysia.. it's called Family Mart, selling Japanese food, kinda like a Japanese 7/11..
The other one is CU Mart & eMart, the Korean type of 7/11..

We could have Japanese and Korean foods, drinks, sweets, snacks, and ice cream directly from respective countries...

I prefer the raw fish also. There's just... Something taken away from the texture and flavor of a fresh piece of tuna by the rice and nori.

I actually prefer sashimi, I love the taste of just the fish

It depends on the type for each for me. Eel nigiri is my favorite, but I would rather have a salmon roll than a salmon nigiri just because it really needs that extra flavor.

I like anything honestly.
Raw fish over rice Japanese style, Sushi, poke bowls made like they are in Hawaii are also fantastic.

I just love fish and rice man.

When I went to Nippon I had enjoyed all the benefits of good food at a low cost. I miss it there. People were genuinely kind.
