2024 Tesla Model 3 real world review. Is it still the benchmark EV everyone else has to beat?

The Tesla Model 3 got a refresh for the 2024 model year, to make it even more efficient but was it enough to keep its position as the benchmark EV all other car manufacturers have to beat?

Was really keen to see Harry's thoughts - what I really like is that he's neither an EV fan boy, nor EV phobic, but just gives a very balanced, reasonable, intelligent perspective. Good stuff.

I got mine a month ago. Superb review. I have the dual motor one. Best car i ever had. I have had 7 miatas, 2 1991 Turbo MR2s, 2 Honda S2000s and multiple others…I love small sports cars. You could read this comment and say I had crappy cars lol. But it reminds me of them. Visibility is incredible. My first electric car. 55 years old here and the overall process from ordering to delivery to charging is miles away from anything I ever lived. Took me a year to decide and when I was about to pull the trigger they announced the 2024 one! The sound system, the app, everything is great. If you hesitate reminder it took me a year of searching the web, talking to owners etc…Thanks for your review!!!

"I dont desire one, but I admire it."
Sums it up perfectly.

I salute Tesla's achievement in making EVs 'work' in the real world. Some of the big brands still don't get it. We don't want sub-3 sec 0-60 times, but we do actually want to get to where we're going. Developing the super charger network alongside the car production roll out shows the way to go - still. For now, however, I still love my ICE! Excellent review as ever, Harry.

I bet if Tesla offered an indicators stalk option and a physical gear lever / selector, those would be the two most popular options ordered.

I'd like Stanley"s input on a regular basis please.

I've had my Model 3 Performance for 7 months and have covered 8500 easy miles. People always like to tell me how it's terrible that you can only get 280-300 miles on a charge. But Interestingly my GR Yaris would do the same on a full tank, but cost about 6 x as much. Teslas have their place and they are not for everyone, but they 100% are the Benchmark for all other EV's.

Thank you for putting focus on efficiency. For most commutes people don't really need big ranges, 250-300 really is enough for 90+% of use. And that's where efficiency becomes a key metric. Needing almost 30-40% more energy to drive around will certainly add up over the lifetime of a car in charging cost.

Adaptive cruise is adjustable for distance to the car in front.

We’re still swishing around in our SR+ we got in early 2019, and the other day averaged over 5 miles per kWh…mixed driving 30 to 70 mph. We added a Model Y in 2022, trading in the camper van…swallows camping paraphernalia, remaining glued to the road ignoring the weight.
Factor in solar home charging, and Octopus Intelligent Go tariff, and you have cheap, quality motoring…the £thousands we’ve shelled out on running vehicles over the past 5 decades, is a shockingly eye watering thing of the past.
Don’t forget the regular, and significant over-the-air updates. And regen braking.
The new ‘ground-up’ Model 3 Performance is now available for those who want to rip their spleen…0-60 in 2.9 seconds. Efficient and good value.

I'd like Stanley's review of dog mode. Actually, I'd like Stanley's review of the cars you drive in general! More Stanley!

As always another great no nonsense, common sense review from Harry & great to see Stanley helping out. We need more Stanley Co-presenter videos! 👍

A couple of comments from an owner of the previous gen Model 3:
- The seats are weird. When you first sit in them they seem uncomfortable, and you struggle to get a good setting. But on long distance - 2-3hrs - they are extremely comfortable. The only seats that don't give me backache, in 30 years of driving
- It is not a B-road car. It is a very good A-road car though, with the ability to make very rapid progress and overtake anything holding you up
- Long distance travel with a family is totally easy. There is masses of luggage space (and the frunk is really useful), the range is very good (2hrs between charges on 80mph motorways, 3.5-4hrs on A-roads), and the tesla charging network is everywhere.
- Dog mode is not a gimmick as it first seems to be. It is actually incredibly useful if you have a dog.
- Whilst I personally like the minimalist design, the stalkless concept is a very poor idea, and actually a deal-breaker for me. I won’t replace my model 3 with a new one whilst they stick to that idea.

Nice to see you indicating on entry and exit of the roundabout, a lost art with so many drivers today!

I remember the amazement when Audi launched the 100 with .3CD drag, which was considered to be the benchmark for many years.

I drove one of these with the long range battery pack just a few weeks ago - from Auckland to Whangārei in NZ, the long way around. 2 and a half hours each way, a combination of highway and twisty roads, driving normally with the odd squirt on the accelerator, 2 iPhones on charge and the stereo with subwoofer getting a bit of a workout. We got home at the end of the day with 31% battery remaining, it was pretty good!

But Stanley the dog was the best part.

I never really gave ev’s any attention, however another one of your professional reviews has given me a more open opinion on the electric car and how it appeals to some
