The funny thing is, that the old Mac Pro looks like a beast, when the new one looks like... Well a trashcan.

currently had my 8 core Mac Pro 2013, upgraded the ram to 64GB. Fantastic machine, use it for all my music work and the workflow with it and Logic Pro X is seamless.

Just discovered his channel, so great to find such interesting in-depth reviews that don't feel lazy or patronising. Subscribed! :)

Great video. I'd love to see how an old 12-core 2012 Mac Pro compares to a new 12-core Trash Can.

Any chance the reason Unigine doesn't see both the D500's is because it was running in "windowed" mode? If i'm not mistaken crossfire (If that's how the D500's are setup) doesn't play well with things like that unless they're running in full screen.

Just a thought, could be totally off the mark. :)

You should compare a late 2012 - 12 Core Xeon with 64G or RAM, SSD with a 2013 trashcan Mac 6 core. Sure the new Mac pro will be a little faster running benchmarks, but is the price difference worth it ?? I bought my Mac Pro 2012 for 1K and added USB 3.0, SSD drives, etc. IMO, Apple created an over priced product that's not upgradable. I'll stick with my old Mac Pro.

Old Mac Pro is like, the only Mac I would EVER consider buying.
It was beautiful and powerful.
The new Mac Pro makes me laugh.

You can throw a 6 core Xeon 5690 3.47 GHz into the Mac Pro and bump the Geekbench score up to 14, 000 points. In the dual processor Mac Pro you can put two of them and bump it up to nearly 29, 000. Also there are faster PCIe SSDs than the OWC one.
I LOVE the old Mac Pro, I love the case, it is not 'bulky' it is 'sexy'. I will get a 2009 Mac Pro for little money and put second hand X5690 processors for little money in it. The cheapest upper class Mac you can get.

well my mac pro multicore performance is 17730 on geekbench 3, and thats the 2x 6 core xeon running at 2.4ghz or 2.67 with boost, but what i am more interested in is how to get dual amd hd 7950 without risk of burning up the motherboard.

I'm personally not a Mac guy at all. What you some of you guys don't understand is the Mac Pro isn't simply just a perfomance computer, it's also innovation. The price tag isn't just used to represent the performance of the computer but also innovation and advanced engineering put into this product. Your paying a premium for a premium product.

I get over 20k on geekbench on my X79 rig so what? and its 2 years old plus I beat the cinebench score too..

To mod the new Mac Pro requires just a bigger trash can for a case. Perhaps a dumpster with a clear plexi window.

We get far too caught up with test numbers. The people who will seriously benefit from a good Mac are professionals and yet all the people who drool over benchmark numbers seem to be those who will do little more than gloat to their friends over having the "best" money can buy without actually using it for what it is designed for. Is a few seconds or even minutes here and there really going to make that much of a difference to workflow? I make a cup of coffee or something whilst I set my Mac processing photos rather than sit and get excited about how it did something 20 seconds faster than before. I like my Mac for being quick yes, but equally as much I like the design of the interface and its reliability. All these speed tests are just hype, the older MacPros are still perfectly good machines, especially when you put solid state drives in them.

I am a pc guy myself, but why do you want to upgrade to a mac pro if you are just using it at home?

that multicore score, saw that years ago, and was like nope not upgrading because i got over 18000 multicore score, now i have only just upgraded my processors in my mac pro, now the prices are reasonable, to 2 x x5680. 2867 single core and 24593 multi. in luxmark 3.1 hotel scene 2750 single rx 570 8gb, including processors the score is 3299. never did cinebench because hey, look at whats in first. now just patiently waiting for mac pro 2019 then might be able to upgrade to a new machine.

although i am a pc guy, the modular tray design of the older box version and the small size plus upgradablity (the cpu socket is just the standard one, you can upgrade the cpu) is quite an engineering feet.
