This is a great example of buy what you need, when you need. You will NEVER out spec innovation.

I rewatched your M1 mini vs Intel Mac Pro shoot out last night. Even after two years, the pain still can be felt from your face in that video.

Little mistake at 6:38 if you want to fix with an annotation - graph label says lower is better for tracks comparison when it should read higher is better.

The new Mac Pro is problematic for certain high end software like Avid Pro Tools. These users should stick to the 2019 version until all the software components have evolved. You can build the $54, 000 version of the 2019 for less than $8000 today (2023). Otherwise, go for Mac silicon.

I would love to see the comparison of the Mac Pro and similarly priced Windows machine. BTW, I'm a Mac user, so I'm not teasing here and just being curious.

Could you test PCIe NVMe cards? Maybe add 1 and see how fast the data speed is, then add a second and see if sharing the bandwidth really slows anything down? Great Video as always. Thanks!

Now that you have such an awesome system, I expect 2-4 videos a day. You have the capability. 😁

my ignorance about unified RAM raised questions for me, Logic workflows are pretty demanding when you run a session with audio + third party plugins + VSTs + kontakt soundbanks, it can “escalate” quickly, thank you for dispelling my doubts. 👍

I do understand that m2 ultra is the fastest but here we are comparing against 4 year old machine. Specially your channel has compared every m1 machine with that xeon mac pro from/for last 3 years.

But you are not comparing apples to apples (no pun intended). You are comparing a 4 year old 12 Core machine to a 24 core brand new machine. You can't compare the expandability or the fact that I can turn this beast into a window machine and run any Nvidia card that I want running windows. The new Mac Pro is a Mac Studio with some PCIe Slots - that's it... and you cannot use your own graphics card, you cannot upgrade your RAM, you cannot upgrade the processor - nada - it's a stupid machine.

You do NOT need to buy apples storage for the new mac pro
you can use a PCI-e express expansion card and use regular cheaper M.2 drives.
(that should work... and an M.2 Expansion card is not expensive)
Most businesses that buy a few of these, would probably use a network storage server instead though. Be smart 'bout it!

The Vega 2 isn’t the latest version of GPU for the Intel Mac Pro. A fair comparison would be the W6800X Duo.

Unfortunately for audio work it isn’t only all about how many tracks but how many plugins which require large amounts of ram which for higher end audio production can easily exceed 1TB of ram which the max pro doesn’t have.

In Mac pro 2023 can you insert Two RX 7900 XTX? Or 2 TB RAM? I think the advantage is clear.

Hello!
I have the G5 Dual Quad, 32GB RAM.
The power light comes on, but but will not boot. Would you have any idea what it could be? 😳

I'm still using my 2017 27" Intel Retina iMac, I don't do Pro stuff. Was hoping for 27" M2/3 iMac in near future, but decided if/when I upgrade, go with M2 Mac Mini w/ 27" after market monitor. By the time I upgrade that, it almost makes sense to go with Apple Studio just to future proof myself. No Enjoy your videos just to see my options.

Doesn’t really seem fair to compare a fully specced M2 Ultra to a much lower end processor & GPU in the Intel Mac Pro.

Apple's M(X) Ultra chip line won't surpass a 28-Core Xeon w/ a W6900X until we get to like an M10 Ultra at the earliest.

The highest-end specced Intel Mac Pro will be light years faster than any Apple Silicon product for the next decade.

Ironically enough, the Intel Mac Pro is quite future-proof.

An Intel Mac Pro compared to an Apple Silicon Mac Pro is like comparing a PS4 to an NVIDIA RTX 3080 Ti.

This is a comparison between the latest Apple silicon and an Intel Xeon that is 3-years old. Sapphire Rapids is the current Intel Xeon release. I'd be curious to know what the Mac Pro performance would be like if Apple would have allowed an upgrade path to the Intel Xeon w9-3495X, a CPU that looks like it crushes The Apple Ultra at least in synthetic benchmarks. Apple Silicon in a mobile package is without equal. But, the reality is outside of very specific video-intensive workflows, the M2 Ultra does not hold up well against AMD's and Intel's latest offerings.

Hrrrm. The W6900 and W6800 duo have comparable numbers for graphics intensive tasks from what I've seen -- their improvement over the Vega is astounding. So the question becomes, if you already have one of those, is it worth the upgrade?

What about actually using Blender (or other 3D/CAD apps0? I'm assuming the Vega is going to beat the M2 in live 3D viewport rendering, especially ray-traced stuff. I'm just concerned that 'render tests' or benchmarks like that in these 3D apps will give a false impression. Also, keep in mind that the Intel Mac Pro can have a ton of GPU power added to what you just compared.
