You surprised me w the Les Paul comparison, and that’s what I’d use a DGT for, as a sub 8 pound Les Paul.

I am a lifelong Les Paul guy and used to bring a Les Paul and Strat to every gig for years. I then played a PRS Custom 22 and it was the most comfortable guitar I ever played. While it didn't give me the exact sound of a Les Paul or Strat, it got very close to both - and was more comfortable than both. The Custom 22 became my primary live guitar for every gig - no reason to lug two guitars anymore, the Custom 22 could handle everything. I still went to the LP or Strat when recording, but the PRS became my main live instrument for exactly the reasons you've outlined in the video.

I’ve avoided the PRS bug for years, but I recently bought a PRS SE Paul’s Guitar and I’m loving it. The S2 McCarty Thinline is the next guitar I’m buying.

I got my PRS Custom 24-08 a week after Robert got his PRS DGT (Same Color). I absolutely love my PRS! It stays in tune and the intonation is perfect. The tones are awesome! I'm looking forward to getting a Helix and I think the PRS and Helix combo will give me everything I will ever need. Of course, there will be more PRS's in the future....I'm addicted. Rock On!

I just got my first PRS, an SE Custom and I totally agree with you about the cool splits - they’re awesome and VERY useable. The PRS is now my number 1 guitar, I prefer it to my Gibson and Fender Strat/Tele.

Everything about this guitar is perfect except for the price.

I'm a Gibson guy, but recently picked up a PRS S2 22 Standard. I can't stop playing it. I didn't expect to love it so much.

The Strat and Tele comparisons were easy for me to tell and I preferred the originals for those specific sounds, but for the Les Paul comparisons I was surprised I preferred the PRS. I love the sound of Les Pauls over the majority of other guitar sounds, so that was a surprise.

Perfection is relative. I also know from experience that perfectionism tends to get in the way of progress.

As I’ve gotten older I’m more conscious of how I spend my money... I like Mr. Smith and everything he stands for...and he makes one helluva guitar...thats why I play a Paul Reed Smith...and I live in Maryland so its kind of an unwritten rule that you have to play one!!!!

I thought this was a great comparison. The point was to show the versatility of the DGT and it definitely delivered. Very close in all comparisons!

Love the DGT. I met David Grissom at the Saxon Pub in Austin Christmas Eve 2019. To hear him play his signature axe was awe inspiring.

I bought an Ibanez S Series signature JIVA, Nita Strauss. It is very similar in its versatility. I wasn't attracted to the fan boy thing. I just happened to pick it up in the store and ran it through its paces. Similar to the PRS, it has an amazing range of tone, where I can get it to sound pretty close to my Tele, Strat, and LP, but it definately has its own voice. Bonus: it weighs almost nothing. It's the most ergonomic guitar I've ever played. It would be nice to hear what you think about the Ibanez S series guitars. The body style is really amazing and some of their higher end models are pretty spectacular.

The Les Paul is uniquely mysterious. It's certainly not a perfect musical instrument and comes with several highly documented and discussed flaws in design and function. But when a player naturally gells with its history, mystique, and quirks, i.e, loves the Les Paul and everything about it, the guitar then somehow surrenders its nasty shortcomings and bends to the players will. In the mid 80's I decided it was time to buy a nice Les Paul Standard, went to a guitar shop who had a bunch of them, I picked the prettiest one with the best looking top, plugged in, and was nearly embarrassed how horrible it sounded and how impossible it was to play. I put it back on the rack and started looking at other guitars, eventually there was someone playing in the sound room and it sounded beautiful, I mean really beautiful blues based stuff with a lot of melody and good taste that simply delighted your ears. I asked " What guitar is that dude playing? " The clerk replied, " Same guitar you were playing and same amp ". Impossible I thought, but it was true. There was literally nothing to hint, in my mind, that it could possibly be the same guitar. Nothing. Later they were haggling over the price of the Les Paul and fell short of an agreement difference of $100. I wanted to say I'll pay the difference if you teach me how you get that guitar to sing like that, but I knew how to play guitar, and play pretty good, and that you can't teach that shit, so as he was putting the guitar back where it came from, I gave the clerk the $100 and told him to not say anything and that he just decided to take the dudes offer, and walked out the store.

David Grissom, what an amazing artist. The DGT is a great guitar, love the sound and versatility of that guitar. Great playing again Robert.

I've been playing guitar almost 15 years and I got both the strat AND the tele wrong! I own both. Played a 50s classic vibe tele for 3 years in a country blues band and my strat is now my go to guitar, it was gifted to me and I've owned for a good few years.. Always adored strats. I'm truly surprised by this. I have an LP standard 60s era too, which I've owned since I was 15. This either speaks volumes for the way you mixed things, the quality of that PRS or my ear is not as good as I think it is. That said, I usually nail these types of videos! Very, very surprised by that!

People often complain about the Les ‘Paul’s imperfections, but it’s the imperfections, and the fact it’s a big chunk of wood that make a Les Paul sound like a Les Paul.

I had a 97’ ish PRS Custom 10 top w/ birds, emerald green. I’ll never forget the first time I played it after years on a Stratocaster. Immediately I was quicker and so much easier to play. The sound is unique, a great cross between a Les Paul and Stratocaster. I like the knob selector too. Very versatile guitar as the ease of playability was what won me over.

Try the McCarty 594, it's the perfect mix you can find between PRS innovations and the old Gibson LP tone and characteristics.
It's my favorite guitar today (I have a PRS Custom 24 and a Gibson LP Custom and the 594 is really a beautiful blend).

I recently got a used DGT and agree it is a killer & versatile axe. Mine has both PUs coil tapped and reverted vol knobs in traditional spots. I want to flip the bridge knob back to Grissom layout. I like LP necks better, but I'm adapting and appreciating the easier thumb wrap over with the DGT. Big frets love 'em. That low profile comfy trem bridge without any skin shedding allen screws that stays in tune. In short, DGT a real keeper.
