How to open a Premiere Pro project in a previous version

Project files aren't reverse compatible between versions of Premiere Pro. However, maybe you should try this!

1. Open your current project.
2. From the toolbar at the top of your screen, select File, Export, Final Cut Pro XML, then pick a save location
3. Create a new project in a previous version.
4. Select File, then import the XML file

Kind of works but I lose all the audio effects from my 2020 project. Why can't Adobe make at least the previous version compatible? This causes so many problems for editors but apparently Adobe doesn't care.

Thanks. Seems to be working nicely - just re-linking the media which is a small task compared to the option of rebuilding many sequences. 👍

I need to convert a 2021 project to premiere 2018 because my computer can't import .mp4 files in 2021 but it can do in 2018, how to do it?

This method opened a 2023 project in 2022 where all the sound and video were combined into single tracks so it's uneditable now. I wasted like 12 hours doing image correction at home and I don't have time to redo it.

It doesn't carry through any of the effects applied in th newer version even if the older version has the same effects available. It also changed the sequence settings for all my sequences (didn't carry the VR Video, equirectangular setting from 2022 to 2018 even though both have that ability)

Worst tutorial ever Adobe Care. my timeline is ruined. on my job have premiere 2021 and at my home i got Premiere 2019 i can´t upgrade my home computer because newer version are not compatable.
