With 30 years of automotive industry experience, our founder Dwayne Saunders recognized the need for providing auto repair through a different lens. After a brief trial-and-error business model, he opened Genuine Automotive & Diesel in Austin, Texas, in 2019. The concept of superior auto services and repairs and real customer care makes perfect sense to us, but it was so novel to our local clientele that customers voted to include “genuine” in the shop’s name. You’ll find us convenient to multiple major roads (between I-35, the MoPac Expressway, and Wells Branch and Scofield Ridge Parkways) at 13806 Turbine Drive Austin, TX 78728. We welcome walk-ins Monday through Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm. To ensure quick access to a service/repair appointment, you can reserve your time using our online scheduler or by calling us at (512) 866-0212.

One of my workers filled the gas cube van with diesel by accident. I bought 4: 20 gallon Jerry cans and transferred the diesel out of the tank into the Jerry cans. Filled with gas and a can of octane booster. Sprayed starter fluid into intake to get engine to burn off the diesel that was still in the lines. Smoked like a chimney but finally started running. Smoke everywhere. Van runs perfect now. No lingering issues.

if a driver can jam the bigger diesel nozzle into a petrol filler neck, the waffle house has found its new manager

About 30 years ago I worked at a Pilot gas station, a regular customer came by and pulled up to the gas pumps, filled up and then came inside to pay. When I repeated the amount of GAS he pumped, he then realized that he just put gasoline into his new Diesal Oldsmobile car....thankfully he hadn't started it and he called a wrecker service to come and tow it to the dealer to drain the tank, etc. I felt so bad for the guy, but glad he realized what he did before starting up and driving off.

Back when cars had regular old carburetors we'd sometimes fill the tank with regular and then add about a quart of diesel and that would clean out the carbon and varnish .

But from my understanding gas in a diesel is detrimental

I accidentally put gas in my Diesel Sprinter at a BP. They use green nozzle covers for gas and black for Diesel. I didn’t realize that I did it before I turned the key on to check the gauge as it was filling. I noticed when I went to hang up the nozzle. I never started the engine. I had it towed to a car dealer and was charged $400 to drain the tank, replace the fuel filter and flush the line. I never went to BP again after that.

One big factor is the proportion of diesel to gas...
I've seen it only make smoke until the tank was drained, and filled with all gas, then run ok. I've also seen diesel in a gas car totally fry the rings. Diesel is tough to ignite, for a gas car. It can't atomize under such low pressure that typical fuel injection produces (compared to diesel injection pressure). Well, this car was a gasoline directly injected engine. The fuel pressure is much higher, and able to partially atomize diesel. There was just the right proportion of gas to diesel, and it did ignite. Diesel burns HOT! It melted piston rings right out of it.

Now, I've also seen Duramaxes get about half a tank of gas in them, and still run to a shop. Get a new fuel filter, drain the tank, and add just like 5 gal of diesel, and run fine.

One of the first cars I helped work on as an apprentice at a Mercedes-Benz dealership was a C280 that was filled with diesel and drove until it shut off. Drained the tanks, flushed the fuel lines, replaced fuel filter and all of the spark plugs. Test drove the car and it still didn't fun quite right. Master tech training me figured we would just let it run for a while to burn out anything left. After about 20 or 30 minutes we noticed and ominous glow under the car. Both of the cats were cherry red. They got replaced as well. Car ran like a champ after that.

Years ago I ran across a woman in the gas station sitting in her car, crying her eyes out. The hood was up on her Camaro. I asked her what was wrong so she started the car. It was smoking horribly bad. So I asked her what happened and She said she didn’t know. But described how she was afraid to run out of gas this morning and walked the block to the gas station and got a gallon of gas, put the gallon in and drove back to the gas station. But by the time she got there, she was creating her own fog bank.

So I took a whiff Of her gallon gas tank and realize she had mistakenly gotten diesel. So the car was running on about 50-50 mix of gas and diesel which explains why it even ran. I told her to There was two ways to deal with this. One, drive or get towed to a mechanic to get the tank drained out. Or two, fill it up to dilute the diesel and drive It. It might smoke a little bit but the next fill up would completely clear it up.

She started Crying again, saying that she only had five dollars for the rest of the week before payday. So me thinking about my granddaughter, living 2000 miles away, filled her car up and sent her on her way. She asked, how could I repay you and asked for my address. I said you can give your grandpa or dad a giant hug the next time you see them…….

I did that once. The truck ran but it smoked like crazy. It was a company truck so I don’t know what the mechanic did to fix it.

Can attest to most of this. My son wanted to drive his sister's SUV that was low on gas. Without asking, he poured the contents of a 5 gallon gas can into the SUV. It was diesel...and old diesel, at that. Found it in the shed when we moved into the house. He got about two blocks away when it died. He DID push the dang thing all the way back home. I dumped 5 gallons of gas into the tank. it started and we drove it to the station and filled the tank. Never had a problem with it.

Two years ago at the company i work for, the guys who deliver fuel got the delivery mixed up and topped off the wrong tanks with diesel, and vise versa. We had multiple Ford's get towed over to the shop with "engine problems" before the mistake was caught and everyone informed. None of the 5 liter Fords that topped off survived, and several of the v6 Fords fell victim as well. Keep in mind these tanks weren't empty by any means, and the vehicles that filled up were not either... So, take what this guy says with a grain of salt. If you have ANY doubt, don't even start it to pull away from the pump, because it's not opinion, it's fact, you will destroy someone if you run it for to long.

Depends on how much diesel you put in. A gallon wont do much in a full tank of gas. (15 gals or more of gasoline to a gallon of diesel won't do much.) If its mostly diesel... you'll need to drain the tank, flush (blow out) the lines all the way to the engine, put new fuel in it, prime the engine with new fuel, start it and run it. That's it... watch out for extra not needed work and costs.

Yeah, my wife got home with the tank below E, thought she might not make it to town, so put some 'gas' in the car from the shed. It was Kerosene. She made it about 100 yards before the Kerosene got to the engine and shut it down. We were flat broke, so I drained the tank, rinsed it with a bit of gas several times, remounted it, filled it about 1/4 and dumped a couple cans of seafoam in. Just kept cranking until it turned over and white smoke boiled out. Hopped in and drove it until it cleared up.
Went to the station, filled it up with 91, my last can of seafoam, and it was fine until we sold it 6 years later. Not the smartest thing ever - but it worked.
